ndmi find it hard to believe that Yhc is slower than nhc...
i'll check with Tom
IglooDoes nhc compile to bytecode or machinecode?
donssorry, before I did a 'release' build, yhc ran recursive at yhc 172.517 seconds (73.6 x)
now it runs it at yhc 143.878 seconds (61.6 x)
isn't nhc producing object code here? it is.
IglooAnd yhc is compiling to bytecode, right?
donsyeah running in yhi
ndmnhc produces bytecode, puts it in a C array, then compiles it
Calesyntaxfree: what platform are you on?
donsah right.
ndmthats basically a bytecode interpretter, which has expensively compiled an array :)
Caleokay :)
IglooAh, OK
donsndm, if you have access to a machine with gnu make installed, it'd be worth confirming the results yourself. or having Tom do that.
ndmdons: i'll get Tom to check it
syntaxfreeCale: OS X.
donsndm, can i complain again about the svn checkout that runs on configure?
syntaxfreethis looks like an interesting, alternate solution: http://repetae.net/~john/computer/haskell/DrIFT/
lambdabotTitle: DrIFT Homepage
ndmdons: if you don't have svn installed, it doesn't do it anymore, it grabs a tarball - i want to make that the default shortly
vvv/disconnect
donshmm. do i have the right darcs repo?
syntaxfreejesus. I'll just roll a simple one in Parsec.
donsthe one listed on the yhc homepage?
ndmdons: haskell.org or www.cs. ?
donssince it certainly tried to do svn co today
http://darcs.haskell.org/yhc
lambdabotTitle: Index of /yhc
ndmoh no, if you have svn installed it tries, but if you don't then it doesn't
donsah i see.
i had svn installed, but i was behind a proxy, so it failed
so i had to read the svn manual
ndmdons: fair point, i'll raise a bug
quicksilversyntaxfree: I'm not really sure your gee-whiz expression calculates what you think it calculates
donsyou can't just bundle your own libfffi?
ndmdons: we have it on a website and it wget's it as necessary, just as good really
syntaxfreequicksilver: yes, I noticed that.
ndmdons: if you do scons help, it says how to turn off the svn getting
syntaxfreeI should write a rebuttal. Later.
