gentoo_useri'm at the grub screen so i don't think i can do a "ls /boot"
WillItWorkCPrgmSwR2: dbus is critical for modern X becuase it passes system events, and HAL virtualises and abstracts them.
Draconxgentoo_user, you can use tab completion
WillItWorkgentoo_user: hit e
Then use tab completion and hope
gentoo_useri'll try
[R]WillItWork: dbus is nowhere near "critical"
hydrogenits quite useful though :)
CPrgmSwR2thank you WillItWork for that explanation
WillItWorkCPrgmSwR2: np.
gentoo_usertrying to modify 3rd option initrd..
CPrgmSwR2I hate having to rebuild kdelibs
Draconxhydrogen, I find it is the cause of more problems than it solves (what problem does it solve, exactly? I haven't figured that one out yet.)
hydrogenDraconx: interprocess communication
gentoo_userdeleted back to 2.6 and hit tab, it is only giving my .20-gentoo-r7 no .19!!
Draconxhydrogen, that isn't a problem to be solved, and there are already many, many ways of performing interprocess communication on linux.
WillItWorkCPrgmSwR2: This is why I stopped using KDE.
hydrogennone are quite as accessable
dbus has bindings for all sorts of scripting languages
which makes it nice
grknightWillItWork, any progress on your issue?
SloloemHow likely would it be that despite the fact my sound card's mic inputs work in windows, and I've had them working in the past in linux that somehow alsa has lost support for my sound card as a mic?
WillItWorkgrknight: I'm untaring the stage3 now
hydrogenand it is supported by all major desktops (or will be when kde4 is released..) which makes it "portable"
WillItWorkhydrogen: Imagine- GNOME and KDE agree on something! The world will explode ^_^
Draconxhydrogen, perl, python, ruby, etc all support signals, pipes, sockets, etc. (All of which are as portable as POSIX).
CPrgmSwR2I hope kde4 will have some size reduction but I know its not going to happen
lol WillItWork
hydrogenCPrgmSwR2: nope, but it will build faster
gentoo_userso do i have to boot from the gentoo cd and chroot to fix my boot problem?
WillItWorkCPrgmSwR2: No, but it doe have integrated support for beryl!
hydrogenDraconx: right, you try coding a gui app that accepts data via a pipe...
no
CPrgmSwR2who hoo just what I wanted WillItWork
hydrogenit has kwin_composite
not integrated support for beryl
xlordtweid..it is a mixer prob :S
ops
works now
CPrgmSwR2I forgot to put sarcastic after that last comment
