NiarbehtANyone know what all ports need to be opened/allowed to get CS:S and other Steam/Valve/Source games to behave nicely?
grknightdragond, i use SLiM as my login manager.. just hit portage and is all of 4 files
sharp15Niarbeht: can you run "netstat -ap" while the game is connecting?
DragonDumm yeah
grknightdragond, here's SLiM's web page: http://slim.berlios.de/
DragonDgrknight, umm, still no browser
grknightdragond, :D ok. well i really like it with next to no deps besides Xorg itself
Niarbehtsharp15: Ooo, one sec.
sharp15Niarbeht: you may need to sudo that command. not sure.
DragonDgrknight, what is it like?
kel233hey im trying to install the drivers for nvidia would "emerge nvidia-kernel nvidia-glx" do the job
christopherlnshould i remove gnome and install kde
bahblah"emerge nvidia-drivers"
sharp15kel233: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_nVidia_Drivers
grknightdragond, it's nothing special since it only does the login. has autologin capabilities, uses a "theme" with background
Niarbehtsharp15: Messing with iptables requires root anyway. Would I need to sudo from root? I doubt it.
adam1I'm looking for a program that'll run through my servers /etc/passwd file that'll look for users in the system example: status myusername : will return user information.
Niarbehtsharp15: And your answer? The connections seem to be dying pretty quick. I was able to check for servers earlier today. Not sure what changed in the setup, but I can't seem to do that anymore
sharp15Niarbeht: i just assumed you were running every thing throug sudo.
DragonDgrknight, does it have a menu selection for what desktop/window manager to use or is that set in a config file?
sharp15Niarbeht: if you bring your firewall down does steam function?
grknightdragond, the sessions are chosen by cycling with F1 after being set in the config file
Niarbehtsharp15: If I bring my firewall down, have a fun time hearing from me. I can turn off all the rules, sure, but turning it off also kills the routing :-P
DragonDgrknight, sounds cool... just finished recompiling links with graphics support and looks nice too.. well the default theme does..
grknightdragond, seems to be a bug in current release if you use sessions that you need to hit F1 at all or it doesn't load anything
christopherlngrknight, do you use KDE?
sharp15Niarbeht: oh. sorry. i assumed it was a firewall on your local machine.
kel233when i look under /etc/portage/ theres nothing there how do i set up portage.keyword
Niarbehtsharp15: It's a router. If I were playing CS:S in Wine over 56k, I'd probably cry.
DragonDgrknight, do you know if it is amd64 safe? well i'll just try it anyway
Niarbehtsharp15: And flushing the firewall did nothing.
sharp15kel233: man portage ? i can tell you but you'll have to ask again later.
grknightdragond, using amd64 here myself
christopherln, i prefer xfce
christopherlngrknight, what is xfce never heard of it
DragonDgrknight, so you un masked it?
Niarbehtchristopherln: A light window environment.
grknightchristopherln, www.xfce.org alternate desktop system to kde or gnome
sharp15Niarbeht: i'm on broadband, my machine has a local firewall behind the router. but then i switch networks from time to time.
grknightdragond, yup
