jacekowskiqt and gtk
VforVendettathx
jacekowskiqt only system with kde need about 256megs
but qt system with kde and some gtk apps need more
firefox is gtk
but ff isn't good example
VforVendettajacekowski: With qt + gtk installed, will they always be loaded into memory at runtime? Or are they only started when an application requires them?
jacekowski: I want to run Firefox, so will install qt + gtk
jacekowskiyes
but only firefox with few tabs use 200megs - it's heaviest browser
gecko is heavy
konqueror is very light
VforVendettajacekowski: will probably give the KDE apps a go first, and then see if FF is really necessary for me. Maybe Opera/Konqueror would suffice.
jacekowskiopera is heavy too
opera with two tabs use 127megs
konqueror use only 30
GortiZhi to all
VforVendettajacekowski: will try Konqueror then, and see how it compares to using FF in Windows.
jacekowskiafter some configurations yes
GortiZsomeone could help me with grub booting from external hd and an error 17?
clajacekowski: 127mb?
cla 10643 2.8 21.1 178156 106952 ? S 06:46 7:15 /opt/opera/lib/opera/9.20-20070409.6/opera -notrayicon -style baghira
with 10 tabs
jacekowskiso
tuqsseamonkey(extras disabled) 16 tabs -> 80 megs
jacekowskifresh opera with 2 tabs 70mb
VforVendettaWhat's fresh opera?
cla70mb? with 31337 plugins installed i think
suisideVforVendetta: if you need to you can reduce firefox's memory footprint by modifying browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers which defines the amount of cached pages stored in memory, the default -1 is an auto mode where the number of cached pages depends on the amount of ram. Extensions etc. can also eat alot of memory
jacekowskicla opera and plugins?
liquid_ravenI'm having problems with ALSA. Sometimes (read: almost always) the computer starts up and refuses to play back any sound. Doing alsaconf will fix that- until the next reboot.
I'm using compiled-in alsa and I think the problem has something to do with me having two sound cards
VforVendettasuiside: thx. I might still install FF, to see how it compares then, and give all the mentioned browsers a turn...eventually deciding on one or two, depending on compatibilities with sites (many are unfortunately non-working for my FF, but work fine in IE :S)
nAgoHaKsomebody
help me please =)

cahootliquid_raven: the default card varies between reboots?
tuqsnAgoHaK: remerge dev-libs/boost with threads useflag
clanAgoHaK: rebuild dev-libs/boost with USE="threads"
heh
