erithanisany one have any ideas why closing the X server would cause my monitor to stop recieving input? it seems to only happen when I use the nvidia driver.
moonfartwhats the best way to set up a dns server using gentoo is there docs out there on it?
richiefrichanyone in here use squirrelmail ?
erithanisor maybe a place to look for info on what is occuring?
grknightaja, like kdm pulls konqueror even if i wouldn't use it
erithanisduring the transition
moonfartanyone set up a dns server in here on gentoo?
ajagrknight: I wasn't aware of that, might be USE flag triggered. Doesn't change my point, thought.
[R]moonfart: did you check the wiki?
grknightmoonfart, emerge bind and start reading
Fieldymoonfart: try #gentoo-server
moonfartthere are a few different ways to try it from what wiki said
plasmamoonfart: use bind, same like on every linux
moonfartso i was wondering what the best was?
ajamoonfart: You want bind. I've done it, but not for a couple of years, on gentoo.
moonfartok
thats what i wanted to know thanx
plasmaof course only if you are not against standards
moonfartrock on, didnt know there were other gentoo channels
Fieldybe positive to use the chroot option
you'll be given that choice after the merge
erithanisI just saw a comment that ctrl+alt+backspace exits X disgracefully. what is the graceful way to exit, I've alwyas used this. that might be my issue.
ajamoonfart: I think half of freenode is #gentoo-* now. :-)
[R]erithanis: closing your window manager
moonfartcool
Fieldyheh /msg chanserv list #gentoo*
moonfartvery cool
ajaerithanis: I think you can use a SIGHUP, too. But closing WM is the standard.
erithanisI was going to ask if there was another way. I think openbox just dies and leaves the X server running when I close it
grknightaja, sighup? 90% of the time that's a reread config signal
NiarbehtMy god, I think you're RIGHT aja!
erithanisI'll try the sighup
ajagrknight: Might be SIGTERM, easy enough to try.
[R]erithanis: then your launching it wrong
mehhow can I tell (via the commandline) the total number of bytes in a folder?
grknightaja, i'd agree on SIGTERM
Fieldydu -s folder
ajagrknight: But, I don't think X can reread xf86config without restarting, anyway.
grknightaja, never tried it tbh
meh+Fieldy, thanks.
