kentinI would like to try gentoo but I don't what is the last version
marienzmzbot: faq version
Artumimarienz i was asking if i could install gentoo via floppy diskettes
mzbotmarienz: No such faq
marienzmzbot: faq release
mzbotmarienz: A Gentoo release (200X.Y) only affects the installation media (the installation CDs, package CDs, netboot images) which you only use during the installation of Gentoo. Once installed, updating your system will always get you up to date with the latest "version" of Gentoo.
david935JanisB. I wonder why it's 486 instead of 686...
Artumimarienz mattmatteh answered me that i cant
_ircnickn|archvile , no, when you run '-rebuild-sb'
n|archvile_ircnick: i think it eventually fails, --rebuild-tree finished though
marienzkentin: 2007.0 is released (see gentoo.org frontpage) but see the faq on how important that actually is :)
JanisBdavid935 i wonder it too, because everywhere i vas used only i686 profiles, and even in make.conf i still have 686 flag
n|archvile_ircnick: and --check actually worked after i ran --rebuild-tree
Artumimzbot: gentoo usb faq
mzbotArtumi: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/usb-guide.xml
Artumithanks
mattmattehArtumi, do you have a cdrom drive ?
n|archvile_ircnick: but i still cant mount it or anything :/
marienzArtumi: depends on how strictly you take your definitions :)
david935JanisB: Maybe your 3.4.4 compiler hasn't been deinstalled yet? If not, try gcc-config to that profile and see if you can at least get GCC working.
Artumimattmatteh yes
mattmatteh i dont have a burner though..
kentinthanks marienz, i'll try to download it
marienzArtumi: you can install gentoo from any running linux, including something like dsl running from floppy. You can't use official release media, but imho that's a nonissue.
Artumimattmattmeh i think its an 8x drive, but am not sure.
marienz dsl , on a 1.44 mb floppy, are you sure?
JanisBdavid935, "gcc-config 1" hangs, and after CTRL+C sent me to http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68395 :)
mattmattehArtumi, what do you have installed now ?
marienzArtumi: not a single floppy, and I'm not sure if dsl works from a bunch of floppies or not, it's been ages since I've had access to a box with no usb nor cd boot capability
JanisBhe said " * Your gcc has a bug with GCC_SPECS. * Please re-emerge gcc."
DraconxI put a busybox/linux system on a 1.44 meg floppy to install on my laptop.
_ircnickn|archvile , try something like -> #reiserfsck -scan-whole-partition -rebuild-tree /dev/hdX
david935JanisB: How about gcc-config 5?
JanisB[5] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.4-hardenednopiessp ?
GilHi all, I'm trying to install Gentoo on a new computer and I'm stuck on configuring "make.conf". I've been trying for the past 3 hours to understand what I should write in it, being a complete newbie to Linux. Every guide I've seen so far assumes I know more than I do.. I've never really handled Linux in an way, am I in over my head here? :)
Artumimarienz right now it has debian linux
marienzJanisB: echo $GCC_SPECS
david935JanisB: Yeah, that was what you had been using prior to the upgrade, right?
n|archvile_ircnick: alright thanks alot dude, ill give that a shot
JanisBmarienz, nothing
