gentoo_oh i c to gain root access you do sudo su
summatusmentison reboot, I also get the error "INIT: no more processes left on this runlevel" and then it hangs, I'm looking for it to poweroff itself, and I have a feeling I screwed up w/ rc-update somewhere
grknightgentoo_, you can also ctrl+alt+F2 and type passwd :D
NiarbehtAre you using a visual terminal inside X on the livecd or something?
ajagrknight: _Very_ old pun on "reasons". Origin was "for hysterical raisins" (historical reasons)
gentoo_i believe the gentoo people should make that clear up front
PodraigDoes gentoo have a LiveCD for MacOSX computers that includes a memory tester??
NiarbehtJust do alt+ctl+f2
ajagentoo_: Um, they do. Check the guide.
gentoo_how about if i did not have internet what would i do to use gentoo root
grknightPodraig, there are ppc arches depending on the mac.. idk if it has a mem tester though
gentoo_nope when booting it just say will automatically log in user gentoo in 30 s
ajagentoo_: (1) You do have the internet. (2) If you didn't, gentoo would be a poor distro choice. and especially (3) The manual's on the LiveCD
Niarbehtgentoo_: How about you'd have printed the guide first, then, like I do when I do networkless installs. If you didn't know about switching to consoles, I dunno if gentoo is the best thing to start on...
Podraiggrknight: ta
its a g4 PPC
gentoo_dude dont try to be the lawyer of the daemon it is not there why not make it easy and not looking under the carpet to see things
NiarbehtDoes anyone understand what gentoo_ just said?
grknightPodraig, you could ask in #gentoo-ppc though it might take a bit if no one is available
NiarbehtI think I understand it now....
summatusmentis"INIT: no more processes left on this runlevel" <- how do I fix this, happens on reboot/shutdown
mellisPrepare for the most idiotic question ever... is there are way to undo a command?
lol
Ayumemoo
Podraigrokay
Niarbehtgentoo_: I don't see anyone playing devil's advocate, and I don't remember anything ever being hidden under carpets during ANY of my Gentoo installs. And I've been through quite a few by now. It's a straightforward installation."
mellisI am serious by the way.
ajagentoo_: So, to summarize: (1) You didn't bother to get a copy of the installation docs before you started, (2) You didn't bother looking for them when you discovered this, (3) You're annoyed that no-one is holding your hand, (4) This is a bit unreasonable, (5) I'm a jerk for pointing that out.
PodraigCtrl-Z
mellisthere a *
Niarbehtmellis: Uhm. What did you do? DId you do rm -rf /?
mellisWell, no
I am just wondering
Niarbehtmellis: afaik, no.
mellisI think I have a backup of my /var/www/localhost
gentoo_i am not talking about installation i am talking about usability
mellislol
Oh well
I don't want to lose my webpage, lol
ajagentoo_: Um, part of installation is setting the root password. After which, presumably, you would know it.
