Niarbehtgentoo_: I believe the liveCD's randomize the root PW on boot. Did you install gentoo and forget to change your root password?

ajagentoo_: The answers above are correct - for interest's sake, it is (pseudo)randomized for each install, so unknown. Security raisins.
