RiverRatpergesu: Adjust the GENTOO_MIRRORS variable in make.conf
jmbsvicettoRiverRat: Actually, for the seven incarnations of the GRUB thread ;)
HedgeMagejmbsvicetto: I have to go see if I can get my kid to sleep... thanks for all of your help
jmbsvicettoyw
t35t0rahh kjsmebed
pergesuRiverRat: Actually I've tried to run it a couple times and it's failing regardless of the server :\
RiverRatjmbsvicetto: But you aren't in #grub. HedgeMage is. :o
jmbsvicettoRiverRat: nope. Didn't even knew that existed
RiverRatpergesu: resync then. That package (-version) may have been removed.
AdylasRiverRat, Humm I just try the alsa-driver .. Nope, still popping (((
RiverRatFreenode has a channel for just about everything.
Vang3anyone on an 8800GTX?
jmbsvicettoRiverRat: :)
RiverRatAdylas: Are you using the OSS emulation for ALSA?
pergesuRiverRat: how do I resync?
jmbsvicettoVang3: nope, 6600GT
pergesu: emerge --sync
RiverRatVang3: I think I saw a slashdot thread about that card being recalled. (it could have been an April foolie though)
pergesu: emerge --sync
pergesuRiverRat: is that something I should be running often, to get the latest portage info? or does just running emerge usually take care of what I need?
RiverRatpergesu: emerge updates to the information from the last sync.
crazy6ok, so I am trying to install an open source FEM package called Salome ; its distributed as a lot of small modules. There is an installer, but it wants to install a bunch of binaries of specific version of packages (gtk, etc etc). Is this going to break my system?
pergesuRiverRat: okay so if I haven't done emerge --sync in several weeks, then I certainly wouldn't be getting the latest packages
RiverRatpergesu: Correct. I actually use eix-sync but I use eix a lot.
jmbsvicettocrazy6: If you want to install packages on Gentoo, you should look for ebuilds
tech_can I copy a partition to a file using dd and get some kind of progress status as its copying?
AdylasRiverRat, Nope, I just my pure Alsa module , snd-ice1724 in that case
crazy6jmbsvicetto: I know, thats how I usually install packages. This, however, does not have an ebuild.
Draconx|Laptoptech_, send SIGUSR1 to the dd process and it will print some status information.
jmbsvicettocrazy6: Have you searched on https://bugs.gentoo.org and or the overlays?
crazy6: You should start by layman
RiverRatAdylas: That's what I was saying earlier, I had to tell a few programs to use OSS and then enable the OSS emulation layer in ALSA to get non-h0s0red sound.
mklebelWhen I was using Ubuntu, my CPU fan on my laptop would kick on when compiling, now in gentoo it doesn't, also my lap gets very hot.
mattmattehmklebel, depends what laptop. you probably need something in the kernel, and/or a daemon
jmbsvicettomklebel: Have you enabled/disabled acpi on the kernel?
tech_Draconx|Laptop, how do I send that signal? kill isn't it?
Draconx|Laptoptech_, yes
kill -USR1 <pid>
RiverRattech_: And kill -l lists the signals
Vash63Ugh... Firefox keeps changing it's default save location to /mnt/Windows/Users/(me)/Desktop/ instead of /home/vash/Desktop...
