jmbsvicetto[sellout]: Why? It will be released if you need it
hydrogenhmm..
[sellout]hmm
hydrogencabac.h:522: error: PIC register %ebx clobbered in asm
thats fun!
[sellout]Well at least i know its not a rouge process
Slowking_Manaditsu: Load the kernel module(s) for it
jmbsvicetto[sellout]: You're worried with rouge? ;)
RiverRat[sellout]: Why? It just makes the kernel go faster. I have 2GB and it goes fast but the kernel deals with it right. Exactly. Welcome to Linux. (except many just use the memory that a process uses and ignore cache&buffers)
aditsuSlowking_Man: I compiled them in the kernel, but it doesn't seem to work; it doesn't even appear in lspci
RiverRathydrogen: Look into the __volitile__ keyword. It helps in those situations.
[sellout]RiverRat: Makes sence to me. Thanks :-)
hydrogenRiverRat: blame ffmpeg ;)
jmbsvicetto[sellout]: If you're doing some kind of SNMP monitoring, the tool should be smart enought to distinguish between free memory and free memory minus cache and buffers
TTTthanks everyone, going to try to boot from my fresh install
jmbsvicettos/enought/enough
[sellout]jmbsvicetto: I usually use top for everything, and we had a bad mmem spike yesterday which filled the ram, and it never seemed to recover, now i know why.
RiverRat[sellout]: That behavior is called read ahead in winblows.
jmbsvicettottt: good luck
braetenenow i get to wait and see if the installer works or kills my system
[sellout]So it does not bother wasting time clearing ram when it is not currenly needed. Makes sence.
jmbsvicetto[sellout]: That's something that has always been done differently on Windows and Linux
[sellout]We just added a 15,000 user forum....before that we never had ANY memory concerns. heh heh.
AdylasRiverRat, Hello, What sound card do you have ?
jmbsvicetto[sellout]: Windows is now starting to do it too
[sellout]Windows steals everything, thats nothing new
heh heh
jmbsvicetto[sellout]: :)
ShodoPansweet, looks like that probably worked, thanks RiverRat and jmbsvicetto
RiverRatAdylas: I have an MSI w/ nForce 3 shipset. It is built in.
jmbsvicetto[sellout]: Just look at our forums - I can understand your concern
AdylasRiverRat, What driver do you use ? (module ..)
ShodoPantime to restart for the final test :)
jmbsvicettoAdylas: Have you tried using alsa-driver?
[sellout]Ive been using and compiling linux kernels for years, but never understood how the basic memory mapping works. I learn more every day :-)
jmbsvicetto: haw :-)
RiverRatAdylas: 1 sec, starting mak emenuconfig now
Adylasjmbsvicetto, I m going that way right now ..
[sellout]jmbsvicetto: We had to shut id down and overnight another 2 gigs of ram to the server to feed to apache
it is on its way now
