summatusmentisI'm a student, and I need paper editing software
Chicagosummatusmentis: Sorry... try with gentoo-nofb.
defacesummatusmentis - paper editing software ?
Fieldydeface: fyi, eix-sync performs update-eix anyway
defacetext editor ?
summatusmentisdeface, yeah, openoffice. I need to be able to write and work on papers for school while I'm installing
ShaftoThis freezing is really becoming annoying
defacesumma - knoppix is fine
Fieldyagree with knoppix
summatusmentisdeface, that's the impression I got
defaceFieldy - so its been changed; used to not
summatusmentis"Also, know that some of Portage's FEATURES will not work in knoppix. Especially watch out for userpriv and usersandbox. If you find yourself getting errors, it might be wise to disable some or all of the optional features." what does that mean? will I need to worry about either of those?
Fieldynever heard of that issue
defacejust wrote an update script w/ that in it, never changed; nor read changelog
Chicagosummatusmentis: Really you should be able to get a stage3 up in a couple hours with gentoo-nofb and then you can pull in openoffice-bin if you can't stand waiting.
defacesummatusmentis - shouldnt
Chicago - and how's he going to run it ? cli?
Shaftodeface, get a dependency error about dbus
defaceshafto - pastebin.ca
Chicagodeface: He can have a GUI quickly from stage3.
ShaftoI cant copy and past :(
ITs all froz
defaceshafto - we told you, ssh!
fix that crap then
Swampydeface: aha got it working thanks, who would have thought stupid gnome needed to have daemons running just to show a little ui
Shaftodeface, It is crap!
defaceswampy, np - any ui does .. hence the UI
summatusmentisChicago, any reason the gentoo cd is ovely more necessary than knoppix?
defaceits not
he's just biased
Chicagosummatusmentis: deface: This channel supports a predescribed installation process... subverting it and expecting similar results is overly complicated.
defaceonly real need for the gentoo livecd would be for x64
chicago - pointing people to use a jacked up install method is overly complicated as well
summatusmentisChicago, in all fairness, the gentoo website suggests knoppix as an alternative, right above the PXE boot you mentioned earlier
defacei've installed dozens of boxes using knoppix
