tulcodsabooky: don't expect your program to be twice as fast. the effects you're talking about are like, 3% percent at max.
sabooky: if you want to distribute any apps you wrote, you should obviously not use -march=*
sabookytulcod: the programs i'm considering recompiling with the optimizations are mencoder,xvid,x264
tulcodsabooky: if you want an optimised app, you should realize the technical difference between intel and amd athlon procs
Draconx|Laptopsabooky, mplayer uses its own CFLAGS anyway, changing them in make.conf won't do anything.
sabookyDraconx|Laptop: ok good to know
tulcodsabooky: you want to recompile some app for which distro?
hardcoffeetulcod, i m using amd64 and the keyword _march=k8 that not working i have found on net a tuto who say : use -mtune instead of -march i m in fault or not ??
Fieldythere is a USE flag you can set to mplayer to have it use your CFLAGS, but nobody will support you if you do that and it breaks mplayer
er nobody will support you if it breaks it
linexAnyone here familair with mdadm ? I created software raid on my box. Now I want to completely remove the software raid. Anyone can help ?
actionsabooky not using gentoo
sabookynot using gentoo
tulcodhardcoffee: check the wiki, it has a list of safe cflags
Fieldysabooky: what are you using?
tulcodmzbot: wiki hardcoffee safe cflags
mzbothardcoffee: http://gentoo-wiki.com/Safe_Cflags
sabookyFieldy: archlinux
tulcodsabooky: it won't be noticable
sabooky: arch linux is practically as fast as gentoo
stevenoi have really bad problem. everytime i try to use portage i get a segmenation fault
tulcodsabooky: not as clean though
stevenoideas maybe?
Chicagosteveno: problem just started?
tengilDraconx|Laptop: http://rafb.net/p/GrTQO338.html
sabookytulcod: k cool, thanks. the reason i thought of this is when i was compiling something on my freebsd machine i noticed the march optimizations there, so that sparked my intrest
stevenoChicago: yup
eliusi want to buy a new webcam, can anyone recomend a cheap one that works well with gentoo?
sabookytulcod: arch not as clean as gentoo?
tulcodsabooky: well, if you're trying to optimise stuff like aur, you won't notice
Chicagosteveno: did you change your chost or cflags settings? Or do you think you have bad ram?
tulcodsabooky: imo, yep. the configuration etc is not as cleaned and managed
stevenoChicago: neither. i think its a permission problem
etc-update claims it doesn't have write access
tulcodsteveno: well, what have you changed recently?
sabooky: btw, portage > aur :p
aur/abs
whatever
portage > aur+abs
HedgeMageRiverRat: are you sure? I didn't think the centrino-based core 2 duos were 64 bit
stevenolet me confirm, hold on
