jmbsvicettoIf so, take a look at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/altinstall.xml
quitttI have a LiveCD
do I need to download the stage3 ?
jmbsvicettoJerr|sd: hmm, weird
Jerr|sd: Did you check if you had any other dir under /usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/gcc-bin ?
summatusmentisjmbsvicetto: yeah, I've got a knoppix CD that boots
yeah, I've seen that, I was just wondering if the gentoo one had anything else i needed on it...
braetenewhats the difference between stage3-x86-2006.1 and stage3-i686-2006.1.tar.bz2
Jerr|sdjmbsvicetto: none other
TTTwhere are compiled-in fonts in menuconfig? I turned it on without any fonts and now the kernel won't compile and I can't find it to turn off compiled-in fonts
jmbsvicettosummatusmentis: not really
Draconx|Laptopbraetene, one's for all x86 procs, one's for i686 procs.
[sellout]Anyone know why if all my process only appear to be taking like of ram why it stays almost 100% full?
jmbsvicettobraetene: Do you have a pentium or higher CPU ?
braeteneathlon-xp
quitttI've got 2006.1 LiveCD
Draconx|Laptopjmbsvicetto, pentiums were i586. pentium pro was i686
quitttdo I need to download everything to install it?
or not?
braeteneathlon-xp would be i686 right?
Draconx|Laptopbraetene, yes
summatusmentisjmbsvicetto: ok, thanks
TTTis the menu file in menuconfig stored somewhere that I can grep? :)
jmbsvicettobraetene: Then the difference is you recompiling the system after or during installation ;)
TTTi hate how much different menuconfig is from .config
jmbsvicettoDraconx|Laptop: yes, you're right
braetenejmbsvicetto, kk
ill prolly be overly picky and emerge world later anyhow
jmbsvicettobraetene: The x86 will st CHOST to i386 and use the nonptl profile - you really want to use the i686
braetenek, thats the one i grabbed
trying to figure out what use flags i need, and if i want to use KDE or Gnome :(
quittthelp
ShodoPanso I booted up and now instead of being named 'localhost', my computer is named 'M0002B338255A'. Anyone know why this happened?
quitttis it possible to install Gentoo only using LiveCD?
Draconx|Laptopbraetene, you can try both and see which you like
TTTquittt: livecd needs a network connection to install, OR
braetenei used to use gnome all the time, but kde has some nice features now, id rather not clutter with both tho
TTTquittt: you need to have all the files downloaded ahead of time, like stage, portage, distfiles, etc.
