defacesummatusmentis - offline install ?
wepysummatusmentis: when i boot the gentoo CD, usually i do gentoo noinstaller nox or something
defacecd_rom - i didnt read the whole thing .. sec lemme read up
wepysummatusmentis: you'd have to hit fX for help to get the specific flags..
cd_romdeface:okay
nakeeAllenJB|2: sorry if I don't use the right terminology, I'm not too familier with emerge
summatusmentiswepy: yeah, I've looked at those, I was looking for something to just use a generic video driver, since I think that's the problem, but I didn't see anything
wepysummatusmentis: yah.. i duno i just use console ;)
old fashioned and all
cd_romhehe, geek!
summatusmentiswepy: I'd like to have a full env. as I'm a student
defacecd_rom - he doesnt need to mount his proc, just to change the pw
cd_rom - which is why i want a cleanly rebooted system .. who knows what was typed
AllenJB|2nakee: For downloading the package information, see the SYNC parameter in /etc/make.conf (see also /etc/make.conf.example) - for package downlaods from Gentoo mirrors, see the GENTOO_MIRRORS setting in the same file
cd_romdeface: alright, i thought i was doing something wrong! lol
or missing someting
wepysummatusmentis: that's good.. though for the liveCD, you don't need to use the xorg stuff
defacecd_rom - it verywell could be a botched install, dunno yet
AllenJB|2nakee: You may also want to take a look at mirrorselect (in the package of the same name and on the livecd's, see also the handbook) for mirror selection
wepysummatusmentis: the install environment is not the same as the installed environment..
cd_romdeface:i was thinking that he needed to moutn proc to change his passwd! okay, thanks anyway!
wepysummatusmentis: the most important thing right now is to get ndis-wrapper working on the system.. once that's done you can just emerge stuff normally and install all of the kde/gnome stuff you want
Zabajmbsvicetto, hmm, could that be FS issues?
summatusmentiswepy: yeah, so the gentoo live cd doesn't allow for an X environment?
ShaftoIm here
hydrogenthe minimal cd doesn't, the live cd does
wepysummatusmentis: it does, but i'm not familiar with it, and apparently it's causing problems for you..
Shaftodeface, Im back
defaceShafto - ok
summatusmentiswepy: right, so I should try and get knoppix working w/ ndiswrapper if I want a full env, while I'm installing?
wepysummatusmentis: i duno.. if you can create the gentoo system first, then boot knoppix, then copy the files into /usr/portage/distfiles, that would also work
Shaftodeface, So now you know 'where my system is' :P
wepysummatusmentis: actually, if you had knoppix working on the machine after gentoo was installed, you might be able to chroot into the gentoo partition and just emerge ndis-wrappers
Shaftodeface, soo....now what?
defaceShafto - mkdir /mnt/gentoo
Shafto - mount /dev/sda3 /mnt/gentoo
Shafto - chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
Shafto - env-update && source /etc/profile
summatusmentiswepy: is it possible to build the chroot env, from a knoppix cd?
tulcodehm...
