Chat452laptopuser@laptop ~ $ mount /dev/hda1
laptopuser@laptop ~ $ cd /mnt/windows/
bash: cd: /mnt/windows/: Permission denied
brianwYou should never set USE="-*" w/o also setting some other critical USE flags. But instead of that, just use the 2006.1 profile, which has a very small set of default but needed USE flags
hydrogenDionix: then you should be fine... don't USE="-*"
SkapareChat452: don't know ... you did unmount it, put the gid= in fstab, and remount it, right?
Chat452yeah
/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows ntfs noauto,ro,group,users,gid=1004 0 0
brianwChat452: did you set umask=007 ?
thekloneChat452: you may need to set a umask, whats the permissions on the mounted volume
Chat452no
what is umask for?
SkapareChat452: hmmm ... then either a bug in ntfs implementation or some minor detail mismatch somewhere
brianwChat452: no need for all that user junk for a single user system
Chat452: all you need is user,umask=077
Chat452but I only want users in one group to be able to mount it
users in the windows group
Dionixhydrogen, i'm just trying to avoid having to redo everything later with emerge -N -deep world and having to go back through and doing emerge -p on everything to see what USE flags even affect them
Skaparetheklone: good catch ... yeah he needs umask=0555
brianwChat452: ahh ok , then just add the umask=007 option
Dionixhydrogen, so i'm trying to watch them as i go, but its hard to know what they do
Skapareor maybe the inverse of it
Chat452brianw what does that do?
brianwChat452: sts a permission mask
SkapareChat452: it makes all files on MTFS appear to have a specific protection mask
evil_andyany ideas on why 2 linux boxes (gentoo and debian) over gigabit would only transfer at 71Mb/s while testing (iperf) between each linux box and a macbook pro they both run at 600Mb/s for each test all 3 machines are plugged into the same gigabit switch.
hydrogenDionix: you don't seem to be doing the right thing
brianwChat452: since ntfs does not use linux permissions
Dionixhydrogen, ? what should i do?
SkapareChat452: try umask=0555 and if that fails try umask=0222
Chat452/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows ntfs noauto,ro,user,umask=007,gid=1004 0 0
brianwChat452: that is fine
hydrogenDionix: if you are installing a desktop then the desktop flags are usually right. By not setting useflags now you will find yourself doing -ND world later to add functionality that you removed now
Chat452brianw and that will restrict it to people in the 1004 group?
brianwChat452: since you already set ro, just give user and group full
Chat452: yes
baliHey, did an update last night, and sound stopped working. Anybody else have same problem?
Dionixhydrogen, yeah thats what i'm trying to avoid but i don't like the Desktop profile so i'm trying to create my own as I install each package
Chat452yay it works now
Skapareyay!
