Dislooverk, down at the bottom there is a little button that says help and will give you a brief over view of what the thing does like that one that you were asking me about is for solid state flash chips in embeded devices so i would have to say no for your system
Staticwave_AceI wonder... can I get enough installed from a package cd to get a new kernel running on a system?
NDAKOTAwhat hardware does compilation depend on most? the ram,cpu or hard drive?
brokemyx2roger55: does that require the internet?
roger55brokemyx2, it'll tell you
DoomhammerNDAKOTA: CPU and RAM
ebrakeStaticwave_Ace: strange, first result for sis900 in google goes to opendrivers.com. what version of knoppix did you try?
DoomhammerNDAKOTA: hard drive is used mainly in the circumstance that you don't have enough RAM (i.e. swap)
roger55brokemyx2, if you see some kb value it'll need internet
brokemyx2roger55: are you certain it will work, i only have one connection here.. so i have to move it around.
Staticwave_Aceebrake: whatever the latest is on the site, 5.1.1 or somesuch
brokemyx2ok then i have to do it later.. but ill write that down. thanks.
overkDislo, ok thx man !
dealerroger55: i have a cable conection.. i have to get it working with dhcp, what i can run on livecd?
NDAKOTAdoomhammer, when you said cpu, are you saying it's integer or floating point operation speed?
roger55dealer, if you just need dhcp, it'll work out of the box usually
dealer, if not dhcpcd eth0 or dhcpcd eth1
DoomhammerNDAKOTA: hm, not sure exactly, but i've found that even a prescott is faster than an amd64, i would say
ebrakeStaticwave_Ace: that is strange. I would keep digging, though. gotta be a way to get it working.
Staticwave_Aceebrake: I'm sure there is, just not used to having to fiddle so much just to get an install
jmcfarlaneWhen setting 64bit cflags with an Intel quad core Merom chipset... which "arch" do I use, am I x86?
Setting it to amd64 sure doesn't seem right...
dealerroger55: dhcpcd will work nice?
Draconx|Laptopjmcfarlane, intel's em64t processors == amd64 arch (x86_64)
roger55dealer, that's how it is intended :)
dealerif i set net-setup eth0 and set dhcp, it don't get connection..
jmcfarlaneDraconx|Laptop: oh really... so I would then pick the amd64 profile correct?
roger55dealer, maybe your wired network card is eth1 ?
NDAKOTAfor speed of compilation, which intell processor is amd64 4000+ equivalent to
roger55dealer, check with dmesg |grep -i eth
anyway bedtime, good night.
Dislooverk, how is it going
Draconx|Laptopjmcfarlane, yup. Your -march in make.conf cflags and processor type in kernel config should reflect the fact that it's intel though (-march=nocona is probably best you'll get with gcc 4.1)
overkDislo, im configuring the device drivers
dislo, going well i think
jmcfarlaneDraconx|Laptop: gotcha
Dislooverk, ok
NDAKOTAis anyone using amd athlon
DisloNDAKOTA, yeah i use one at hoem
