DrEeevilillusion: hi there
illusionhi
swapnaplease correct me if i'm wrong. but does not desktop system need more preferance for gui processess? i'll check make.profile now :)
illusionwhat is new about Gentoo 2007 ?
AllenJB|2illusion: Nothing except a slightly modified profile and an updated set of release media
itguruI got a windows XP question - don't burn me for it! i got a sata drive plugged into a PCI card, and it's coming up as drive D - in my XP install. Is there anyway, I can make it drive C:?
AllenJB|2illusion: Because Gentoo's package repository is rolling, rather than relatively static like other distributions, the releases generally mean very little.
itguru: Hint: This isn't #windows
[DejaVu]Ycareneitguru : I know you said not to flame you, and I'm not trying to be inflammatory but why are you asking here?
CoolMcGrrri can't seem to get xfce-extra/terminal to display special chars "????? and so on". ive followed the gentoo utf8 guide
milliganitguru, yes, there is, if you don't have a C drive from before.
illusioncan any one guive a binhost > gnome 2.18
swapnaok i see the profile directory.. how do I actually set up a desktop profile?
[DejaVu]YcareneAnybody know anything about getting a bt878 tuner card to work?
DrEeevilswapna: readlink /etc/make.profile, then man ln ;-)
illusionany one share his binary package ?
DrEeevilillusion: there are a few inofficial repositories
illusion: I have one that hasn't been updated in 3 months
AllenJB|2swapna: The easiest method is to use "eselect profile" - run "eselect profile" without any further parameters for usage information.
illusionguive me the links plz
swapnathanks
CoolMcGrrri can't seem to get xfce-extra/terminal to display special chars "????? and so on". ive followed the gentoo utf8 guide all the way, doesn't xfce-extra/terminal support unicode?
DrEeevilillusion: http://dev.gentooexperimental.org/binpkg/ and as I said not actively updated
itguruAllenJB|2: [DejaVu]Ycarene, I'm asking here, because the problem, is not a windows problem - my HD is showing as the second drive, and I want it to show as the first.
illusionok thnx
itguruI just so happen to be doing a windows install
milligan: OF COURSE! How stupid was I! lol - if there is no other drive for it to recognise....
milliganitguru, you can change the driveletter a disk appears with
linxHello
[DejaVu]Ycareneitguru: it is a windows problem because the c:, d:, e:, etc... drive lettering scheme is entirely a dos/windows construct
AllenJB|2itguru: It's showing as the second drive in Windows. It's a question about windows drive references. Linux uses a completely different system. Many of us choose to use linux because we don't like the Windows way of doing things. Now please get on topic or leave.
Namhey guys, where can I get a manual on all of the variable that is returned from emerge when I do "emerge -p program" and it lists various "[ebuild XXXXX]" where XXXXX is usually something like " N " or something like that, I want to find out all of the available returns that may be possible for XXXXX
any know
?
dasdajsHi, I wanna use my gentoo server as print server, so I've found a guide on gentoo.org, but the guide doesn't say anything about if I need to setup samba in the kernel? Do I have to setup samba before continueing?
progoNam, man portage
[DejaVu]Ycareneitguru: I'm sorry if you're getting a hostile response here, but most of us are fairly disenfranchised with windows and really don't want to deal with it.
itgurumilligan: the thing is, the drive letter appearsthe install is it not?
AllenJB|2Nam: See "man emerge" under the entry for the --pretend option
itguru[DejaVu]Ycarene: Neither do I - but my job means I have to deal with it - I use linux for everything myself
