|Chrisal|how could this have happened??
swapnawell someone advised me that i can install from any linux live cd
so i hope i'll be fine?
_mattswapna, i normally use knoppix :)
likewhoaswapna: just get on a terminal window and go from there..
swapnayup
|Chrisal|also, the sound device doesn't come up along with KDE
swapna:)
|Chrisal|probably because root has no access to it somehow
mjrosenbswapna: gentoo minimal install cd ftw
|Chrisal|help! I'm desperate and I don't want to reinstall my entire system...
swapnalike i said.. wireless..
mjrosenbswapna: copy the drivers to a usb stick
swapna: or don'e use wireless
swapnathe question is am I fine the way i'm going now?
via ubuntu
mjrosenb|Chrisal| I think there was a thread in gentoo-forums about this. . wheel group being deprecated or something like that
swapna: shouldn't make a difference. all you have to do is copy a bunch of stuff to the hard drive and be able to chroot into it
|Chrisal|what's wheel groups? is it recoverable?
wepyanyone know a good ldap browser?
swapnaalright
:)
mjrosenb|Chrisal| the wheel group is the group that is allowed to su
|Chrisal| I'm sure that there are easier ways to fix this. . one, can you log in as root.
|Chrisal|but I could never su?
mjrosenb|Chrisal| second, you can boot off a a liveCD, chroot into the partition, and make whatever changes need to be made as root
CrazyTBhello, all
I'm changing my PPPoE to use baselayout, instead of those old rp-pppoe.
But I still have some questions...
mjrosenb|Chrisal| you can only su if you're in wheel. root can always log in through the console
|Chrisal|mjrosenb: you're right, the question is what is the change needed...
oh I think I know what happened...
I ran the command usermod <myuser> vmware
CrazyTBWill "/etc/init.d/net.ppp0 start" automatically reconnect if (for some reason) the link goes down?
|Chrisal|to add my user to the vmware group
swapnaif I modify the default march=i686 to pentium-m would i have to change CHOST as well?
|Chrisal|it probably overrided the belonging to wheel group
mjrosenb|Chrisal| usermod -a
CrazyTBswapna: no. Don't change CHOST. Never!
|Chrisal|I think I did usermod -G <myuser> vmware
