mjrosenbDrEeevil how is pkgcore?
DrEeevilmjrosenb: it's quite flexible and easier to hack than portage, but UI is still a bit unpolished in places
mjrosenb: but pquery and other tools are quite nice if you want to do more complex package queries
mjrosenbi use ion. . .emerging
DrEeevil: I assume that this won't trash my system
DrEeevilmjrosenb: it shouldn't, and if it does go to #pkgcore and complain ;-)
mjrosenb: I've used it on a few machines in parallel with portage without any side-effects
mjrosenbDrEeevil that's assuming that I can still connect to irc
mikem`dwhen running emerge -pv world, some USE flags appear in yellow, with a % (ie: -build%). what does that mean?
DrEeevilmjrosenb: what, you only have one machine? ;-)
mjrosenbDrEeevil so it uses the same metadata and databases as portage
DrEeevilmikem`d: new useflags that weren't there before iirc
mjrosenbDrEeevil only one that I can get to while laying on my bed
errr
DrEeevilmjrosenb: yes, it wants to be 100% backwards compatible
mjrosenbonly one that I can get to while on this end of my bed
mikem`dDrEeevil: new ones that weren't before but aren't being included (ie notice me but no change)?
mjrosenberrr only one that i can get to from this end of my bed that has a keyboard
DrEeevilmjrosenb: livecds ftw ;-)
mikem`d: I think so, yes
mjrosenbso one weekend i think i got drunk and installed freebsd on my lappy
mikem`dDrEeevil: thanks ;)
DrEeevilmikem`d: and () means useflag is masked, for example the mmx useflag on ppc has no meaning, thus gets masked away
mjrosenbI booted into minimal install cd and sshed to other computer to chat here
swapnawhat would be the ideal compile options for a pentium m 740 processor.. I need reasonable performance enhancements
im refering to the make.conf file
DrEeevilswapna: "-O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -march=pentium-m" I think (untested :-) )
mjrosenbswapna i use march=pentium-m and other standard things
swapnai know its a 740 but i don't know if its pentium m but thats what /proc/cpuinfo says in ubuntu
mjrosenb<swapna> what would be the ideal compile options for a pentium m 740
swapnait might be useful for you to know that my cpu never throttles below 800 mhz in ubuntu whereas it runs at 600 mhz under windows
mjrosenbswapna it's a laptop w/2mb l2 cache?
swapnayup
mjrosenbyou have a pentium m
swapnacool
thanks
chitheadswapna: cpu frequency can be controlled by /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/* what does cpunfo_min_freq say?
cpuinfo*
swapna789000
but it should be lower
