fuzzyshort boot time, less features
coco_kid594so what you do about it..? I get some kind of errors about a later date durning boot and it fixes itself.. what is this?
tuxickvery annoying :)
mjrosenbfuzzy lfs
fuzzyi need somthin like this to run an os with vmware
DrEeevilfuzzy: damn small linux and a well trimmed gentoo I'd say
tuxickespecially since that clock file tells me to set "local"
coco_kid594it is when it checks the drive andit does it every time..
OmiKrOnmjrosenb: to the Device section or Screen?
DrEeevilCoCo_Kid594: one evil strategy is to just move the disk contents to a new disk every now and then, copying unfragments nicely
CoCo_Kid594: then swap the disks ...
mjrosenbOmiKrOn screen. . subsection display
DrEeevil xfs has a defragmenter built in. . .not that I'm trusting XFS anymore
OmiKrOnsame thing
coco_kid594this system is maybe 3 years.. i dont notice any performance issues with the hard drives..
DrEeevilmjrosenb: xfs is scary ... it forgot whole directories like /lib when I used it :-(
Tobaxfs worried me
with its syncing bs
coco_kid5943 years same install..every thing except kernel update
Tobaso I went with good old reiser
DrEeevilCoCo_Kid594: depending on your usage patterns it is often not noticeable
mjrosenbI still want to do a test with reiser
DrEeevilCoCo_Kid594: databases or filesharing programs often cause nice fragmentation as they repeatedly write bits of the same files
mjrosenb: I wanted to do benchmarks of all "big" linux FSes ...
mjrosenbReiser has dancing B trees, which can be located anyplace on the disk
so it's fsck is to scan the disk an look for things that look like B trees
DrEeevil</marketingspeak>
mifoisn't Reiser in jail ?
Tobayes
but his filesystem isn't
funny how that works, eh
or did he kill himself?
I can never remember
coco_kid594useage<--about every thing server related it does all. 2 games, web, ftp, time, samba, dns, chat server etc etc...What i am trying to say is I use it.
mjrosenbso take a reiser partition, put a file on it, install a reiser partition in this file, and fsck the drive
DrEeevilmjrosenb: that shouldn't cause problems ... if it does someone was silly
Tobamjrosenb: heh, that'll get interesting.
sorry DrEeevil

Tobabut it actually will find all the other bits, if it was corrupted badly enough.
