cruxeternusDislo: I'm running out of ideas, to be honest.
NDAKOTAdoes baselayout take a long time to emerge?
cruxeternusDislo: Everything seems like it should work.
jazzencatI may just have to stick to FC or suse.
cruxeternusNDAKOTA: Possibly. It's the most invasive set of changes to the file-system.
rommelNDAKOTA, no not really
roger55NDAKOTA, no. baselayout itself takes a few seconds
NDAKOTA, dependencies might take longer
rommelNDAKOTA, but afterwards make sure you update the configs
cruxeternusAnyone know why net.eth0 would look for dhcpcd in a location other than /sbin/dhcpcd?
udI got the same error, a new net.eth0 from some emerge fixed it
cruxeternusud: Ah, thanks. baselayout, me thinks.
Dislo: Try re-emerging baselayout.
Dislocruxeternus, something is not adding up here i am going to go back and look at the hand book for a minute i was using a custom install guide from work and i think that is getting me
cruxeternusDislo: Alright, but if that fails, updating your baselayout (and in fact, sounds like your 'world', as well) might do the trick.
NDAKOTArommel, you mean the net config and fstab are all set to default?
rommelNDAKOTA, yeah they will be if you blindly overwrite
general rule if you have edited it you will need to again if you overwrite it... if its in /etc/init.d you can let it update
cruxeternusThere are tools for merging config file changes (etc-update, dispatch-conf, etc.)
Dislocruxeternus, yeah looks like a good idea when i run emerge -ptv world
rommelcruxeternus, yeah but you still need to use cation
cruxeternusrommel: Absolutely.
rommelanyway.... work calls
cruxeternusDislo: Well, if you started from Stage 3, you're likely out of date by a few months... so lots of packages to update.
Dislo: That said, net.eth0 should have still worked. But what do I know? :/
Dislocruxeternus, yeah you know when the next release is coming out
NDAKOTAI installed dhcpcd, but while booting(bringing up eth0), it still says " dhcp client not installed"
overkhi guys... im trying Gentoo for the first time... can anyone answer me some questions?
cruxeternusDislo: Gentoo releases aren't signficant the way binary releases are.
dragonheartoverk: yes
cruxeternusOnce you emerge world, you'll have exactly the same system as someone who installed from 2007.0.
NDAKOTAdoes anyone know why
Dislocruxeternus, yeah i know but i was just wondering when the new stages are coming out
overkdragonheart: man, ive emerged XFCE4
Stonefish2007 is out? cool
cruxeternusDislo: I know they're working feverishly on it... but no ETA I'm afraid.
Stonefish: Not yet. :P
overkdragonheart: and it seems to be emerged only a part of it
louipccruxeternus: when I've tried to update like that in the past my system broke... something to do with portage profiles
cruxeternus: is that resolved now?
