dorwardv: np
crazy6ok, so, my wireless device suddenly dissapeared... should I just smash this laptop with a hammer and buy a new one?
xsappyxcrazy6: i dont think that will fix it :P
crazy6xsappyx: oh. ok.well, the ipw2200 module loads OK...
but then eth1, which used to work, now doesnt
xsappyxive been fighting bcm43xx for a bit, so i understand the pain
ebrakecrazy6: check that your wireless and other interfaces have played musical chairs. Without udev rules to pin it in one place. the nics can jump around with each kernel upgrade.
sdct989I'm trying to handle some custom remaps in xkb anyone available to help?
crazy6ebrake: iwconfig only reports eth0 (wired) and lo, ifconfig only reports eth0 and lo
ebrakecrazy6: is eth0 your wired nic?
brianwcrazy6: is the radio turned on?
crazy6yeah, i am using it right now
radio turned on? I don't think I've ever had theoption in linux...
brianwcrazy6: it is a hardware switch in my laptop
Fn+f4
crazy6brianw: no, there's no hardware switch on my laptop. There is a way to do it with function + F5 , in Windows
oh, hrm, looking at my dmesg, there is a problem loading the firmware
brianwThe function switch works in windows and linux on mine. It is pure hardware switch...
ebrakecrazy6: what error?
crazy6ebrake: ipw2200: ipw2200-bss.fw request_firmware failed: Reason -2
Fieldycrazy6: do a google search for that, there is a specific fix for it
crazy6well, I hope it's as simple as just getting new firmware, and not having to desolder something from my motherboard
ebrakecrazy6: try this? http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_ipw2200
it gives a fix for the -2 error
crazy6hrm, I must have switched over to the kernel driver without realizing it... I thought I had booted up and used it since my last kernel upgrade... hrm
brianwcrazy6: it is fine to use the kernel module, you just need to make a udev rule...
crazy6: or try updating udev first as they may have already added it...
Fieldyit's fixed in later versions of udev
crazy6how late? I'm at udev-108
Fieldystrange. i'm at that version and it's no longer an issue for me. in the past i had to edit udev rules.
crazy6alright, the only problem was I didn't have the newest firmware. I didn't remember upgrading my kernel, but I guess I forgot
I better get used to mainting linux though... my windows was just screwed up by an automatic update, so I'm full time linux for now
