Draconx|LaptopRhynri, that's pretty vague... when deciding how to lay out my filesystems I take into account the machine's purpose, its users, whether available storage is going to increase in the future, what most of the disk space is likely to be used for...
blackacetrelly: join #gentoo-ops when you're done being an ass.
purplepenguinsI prefer making separate partitions
for most of the directories
rhynriDraconx|Laptop : ah, it's got 1.2 tb of additional space - i'll just stick to using my default i guess.
Po0kyanybody knows if parted can operate on a file too?
or how I can trick it :)
purplepenguinswhy would you want to partition a file
rhynriimg?
Po0kyresize a partition in a file
moreonPo0ky: use losetup to map the file to a block device.
Po0kyoh nm
I'll try to remember the tool moreon, but I realised, there is no partition in my file, so I just can resize the filesystem without too much trouble
moreonAlthough I don't know why you'd make multiple partitions in a file.
Po0ky: yeah, was just thinking that :P
Po0kyme too, I'm just a little slow in the morning ;)
moreonPo0ky: I would think you'd have to increase the size of the file first, and then grow the partition to fill the rest of the file.
Po0kydon't know, it's a sparse file, It was 0 mb when I first created it and has grown since I got the filesystem on it. So maybe I can skip that step, I'll have to look into it :)
Draconx|Laptopthe steps for sparse files are the same.
Po0kyI'll delay it for a bit 700M 502M 199M 72% /usr/portage, still have 200mb worth of tiny files to go
purplepenguinsman, I need to stop hitting ctrl+alt+backspace
mortideus?
hardcampa?
mortideuspurplepenguins, you like to kill X alot?
moreonpurplepenguins: you can turn that feature off in your xorg.conf :) Although that could have bad consequences if you need it :P
purplepenguinsI hit it on accident
I thought about turning it off but I decided not to, in case I needed it
mortideuspurplepenguins, dumb question probably, but how do you manage that?
purplepenguinsI don't know
so many commands require ctrl
I was reaching for something
and hit backspace
Po0kyAIGLX error: dlsym for __driCreateNewScreen_20050727 failed (/usr/lib/dri/fglrx_dri.so: undefined symbol: __driCreateNewScreen_20050727), anybody a clue
purplepenguinsaiglx? is that the compositing thing?
you might want to try the #gentoo-xeffects
mortideusPo0ky, if your on an ATI card, you might want to use GLX instead
Draconx|Laptopmortideus, you mean XGL
mortideusDraconx|Laptop, yes :) thank you
gnilorbtw there is a new ati driver again, wonder what problems this one will give me :)
