thrice`xfce is a DE
crdlbLunarC, it has very few real apps
hydrogenprobably because I dislike it more than gnome :)
bayziderssnappling: Do you have any idea on how to fix it?
thrice`(from the homepage) Xfce is a lightweight desktop environment for various *NIX systems
bsdfox_nbags: I use KVM instead of vmware but it's the same idea- I can run three virtual machines (one linux, one freebsd, one winxp) and still have acceptable performance on an E6300 core2 w/ 2gb ram
nbags: I think vmware is supposed to be a little better on resources
LunarCcrdlb, it has the DE-related apps, such as a good panel app with pluggins, a desktop manager, a file browser, a whole set of graphical config programs
nbagsbsdfox_, might just pull a number out of my arse and say that 10 VMs will run if there is enough ram
AssociateXhello people
sapplingsnappling :P , no sorry my issue is differnet I my sound works perfect just I needed to route my audio using a virtual device in my asoundrc to use all of my jacks, and now my system dosen't use that device as default.
bsdfox_nbags: a friend on mine runs 8 guests with xen on a dual opteron w/ 4gb ram but his system runs poorly
nbags: even with fast processors an idling guest is gonna use 5-10%
nbagsbsdfox_, well its a dual xeon 3.0Ghz. planning to put a lot of ram in it though.
maybe i'll say 8
sapplingLunarC: What browser do you use in xfce, and mail prog?
nbags8 guests that is
and say 8GB ram
bsdfox_nbags: what are you using the guests for?
nbags: you won't be able to do any real work with that many, it's only good for testing stuff
sapplingJesus, xeon. quad core. nice proc
LunarCsappling, thunar is an awesome but lightweight file manager. browser and mail prog? why do those have to be specific to the DE?
why should they be?
nbagsbsdfox_, at the moement it'll be a linux mail/web server and a windows 2003 sql/web/custom-server-apps. soon there's be another win2k3 server running sql 2005 and asp.net
sapplingLunarC: Well, evolution is :P. As for broswer I cannot decide between firefox and opera. The only thing firefox has going for it right now are its plugins.
AssociateXdang it, there are yellow letters in my emerge messages again.
nbagsbsdfox_, but i want to give them some kind of estimate as to how many more it can take
bayzidersSorry bout that
crashed my system
sapplingLunarC: Firefox renders poorly compared to Opera. imo
bsdfox_nbags: for something like that I wouldn't want more than 2-3 guests running on a very fast system
LunarCsappling, I never got the hang of opera
it always felt clunky and unstable to me
bsdfox_nbags: I tried loading up 4 on mine and it died
CrazyTBcould someone here please tell me to which package belongs the gnome-keyboard-settings (or something like that)?
nbagsbsdfox_, but you only have 2G ram right?
LunarCand it's debian package disabled my system for 3 days, though I can't really blame it, it was really an xorg-related issue =p
bsdfox_nbags: right
nbagsbsdfox_, maybe i'll say 'at least 5'
(guestS)
