#gentoo - Wed 28 Feb 2007 between 14:32 and 14:43

shaldannonanyone?
randreas69I've just rebuilt both the alsa-packages
I rebuilt mplayer twice with 2.6.19 symlinked and removed /etc/asound.state. Try as I might mplayer doesn't like my soundcard
aberceanuazazello: well?
randreas69Audigy4 which run fine now
lyamneed advice: i want to move to gentoo and build it from 1 stage. should i wait for 2007 profile or download existing 2006.1?
Flyserlyam: why stage1? and 2007/2006.1 doesnt matter
randreas69I run the kernel alsa modules. Will I need to feed the kernels alsa headers to be visible system wide or will /usr/src/linux do well?
I fell something radical has changed in alsa and the system doesn't see it
feel*
azazelloaberceanu: hardware problem
aberceanu: lots of usb hardware is flaky like that
lyamwhy doesnt matter? the newer, 2007, contains nes packages. or i am wrong?
new*
azazelloaberceanu: and it might work in one OS and not the other due to how capable they are of resetting the usb host controllers until the device works
Priceyj #gentoo-dev
aberceanuazazello: but my keyboard works perfectly in gentoo text mode!
randreas69is there a correct channel to ask some alsa questions?
azazelloaberceanu: oh, yeah, then that's probably unrelated
michaeleDoes anyone know about changing FIFO tigger levels in UART Serial Cards?
bsdfoxlyam: by the time you install stage 1 you are gonna sync to 2007 anyways
azazellolyam: why do you want to build from stage 1?
aberceanuanyone else has any ideas about this?
lyamwhy not?
azazellolyam: because it's time consuming and prone to misconfiguration
bsdfoxthe gain is very little for the trouble
AllenJBlyam: because it's basically pointless - there are much easier and less error prone ways of gettign to the same state
lyambut i want to learn ;)
azazelloaberceanu: if you start X, then switch to text console, does the keyboard work?
AllenJBIf you really want to learn, do an LFS install
abhinayiam not getting any sounds after emerging gnomebaker , any suggestions ?
azazelloaberceanu: also try tweaking /etc/X11/xorg.conf bits related to keyboard
tainterrunning emerge -upDN shows me that nvidia-drivers and nvidia-legacy-drivers are blocking each other: http://rafb.net/p/5aKkKp50.html ; how do i fix this? i want nvidia-drivers
azazelloaberceanu: you might even move /etc/X11/xorg.conf and run X -configure to make a new one
aberceanuazazello: last option doesnt work cos the automatic config crashes for me
azazello: had to do it manually
:)
AllenJBtainter: You need to unmerge nvidia-legacy-drivers before you can emerge nvidia-drivers
azazellothen try to fix it minimally until it doesn't
yaaarhey guys...is there a quick way to get a list of the ebuilds installed on my system that aren't anything's dependency?
