thechrisI need help with conf.d/net in a non-typical situation.
MrRatthechris: ?
thechrisMrRat: i need conf.d to set up eth0 for two DHCP connections, each with a different, set MAC
MrRatthechris: Let me try to get this.. You have one nick that you want to grab 2 DHCP addresses from 2 seperate DHCP servers?
peksterthechris: Don't think you can do that without using a 2nd device, or using ebtables or such to re-write the MAC when it leaves the interface or something
daumanyone here using rtl8180 and 2.6.20?
gentoodudeeh, anyone have any ideas why gensplash wont do 24 bit 1280x1024 and will do 16 bit
medic30420MrRat i may be jumping in here halfway, but i have a setup where i do exactly this...
i have one physical nic, (eth0), on my desktop, which i run vmware on
MrRatthen tell thechris
gentoodudei remember i used to run x in 1280x1024-24@60 with no problem but gensplash won't.. i think i was using nvidia drivers on x though
thechrisMrRat: i need to have eth0 and eth0:0 get an IP from the same DHCP server. this means two MAC's
medic30420thecris, i have another virtual interface (vmnet0) that uses the same physical interface
gentoodudedo i _need_ to use vesa on gensplash?
medic30420you have too set eth0:0's mac as different from eth0:1's
thechrismedic30420: yes, right now i have two interfaces, but they have the same MAC, and sometimes things don't work right.
medic30420otherwise your dhcp server may get confused,
TuX_BuBlingyes set a different MAC on eth:
0:0*
medic30420man ifconfig and i believe you can find the syntax
thechrismedic30420: I was not able to find the way to set manually conf.d/net for dhcp in this situation
medic30420thechris , using conf.d/net requres symlinking net.eth0... it may be simpler to write a script yourself once you get it working
gentoodudeanyone who could help me maybe please?
MrRatthechris : see conf.d/net.example
there are mac change examples in there
peksterWhen I try to run /etc/init.d/sshd restart as root, I get [!!] when it tries to stop sshd. I recently updated openssh and ran dispatch-conf, although I have also tried replacing the old config file and re-running the restart request to the same effect. Any suggestions?
medic30420conf.d/net also changed its syntax (w/n the last year)
thechrismedic30420: i wasn't able to symlink net.eth0 to net.eth0:0, but it looks like net.eth0 can overload any of the options for making virtual interfaces
daumanyone able to help me setup an ebuilt for the rtl8180 driver that is able to compile for 2.6.20? I downloaded the package from sourceforge, but not sure what to do from there
medic30420(net.eth0 is symlinked to net)
