NY Lost Funds

ChrisGowoot emerge is on 400 or 465 of Kde ;X
zlinedoardo|office: I'm not really trying to be agressive either. I'm just trying to make it clear to you that the days when monolithic X was an option on Gentoo are past. so you need to migrate and it may take some time.
kojirowd3: no, oneshot is not a remerge of all apps :)
wd3: --emptytree is
zlin? modular-x
jeeveshttp://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/x/x11/modular-x-howto.xml
wd3kojiro: ok
zlinedoardo|office: ^^
edoardo|officekojiro, the point is i think somethin' went wrong durin' the compilin' of 7.x. i did it on another athlon-xp in this law firm with distcc and the video modules such as radeon.ko had broken symbolic links
kojiroedoardo|office: hmm, it's possible. Did you try a revdep-rebuild?
edoardo|officekojiro, but proprietary drivers worked on that athlon-xp, so that worked
wd3kojiro: apps are emerged to the USE flags right, so the PII upgrade to PIII wouldn't affect the apps anyway huh?
kojiroedoardo|office: you shouldn't use tar to install binpkgs on a portage system
edoardo|office: that's your first mistake.
wd3: generally speaking that's right
edoardo|officekojiro, i had done emerge -avb, and then on *this* box i did emerge -avk and neither the free software drivers nor the proprietary worked on thissun
kojirowd3: nothing wrong with an emerge --sync && emerge -uDN world though
DLangeMmsg hkBst Bugzilla: Mid-air collision detected! Someone else has made changes to this bug at the same time you were trying to. Super :-)
edoardo|officekojiro, so i tried downgradin' to make it work. when it didn't work, i did tar jxvf cause ya know people were comin' in and couldn't work on this box otherwise i thought
kojiroedoardo|office: you started out with one problem, you managed to generate another, and you aren't on your way to solving either..
hkBstDLange: just ignore those
kojiroedoardo|office: first thing, put the binpkg in /usr/portage/packages/ALL
edoardo|officekojiro, well the point is i tried revdep-rebuild and it didn't work
kojiro, the packages are in PKGDIR
kojiroedoardo|office: then do FEATURES=fixpackages emerge --sync
or just fixpackages if you don't want to --sync for some reason
DLangehkBst: I did not want to override your CC. Perhaps you'll care :-)
hkBstDLange: CC don't get overwritten
zlinkojiro, edoardo|office: actually I think the first mistake is thinking there is a clean downgrade path from modular to monolithic X. 6 months ago it was possible but it still wasn't clean..
edoardo|officekojiro, i keep a vaguely tidy system i think. and i knew tar jxvf wasn't a good thing to do but hey it was quick and people got to work so
kojirozlin: yeah, but now he has 6 installed on top of 7 and portage doesn't know about it
edoardo|officekojiro, i just sync'd. how do i fixpackages?
kojiroedoardo|office: just run fixpackages
wd3kojiro: sync is for the rsync, to sync the ports for emerging apps?
kojirowd3: ja
edoardo|officekojiro, oh
codertuxhi, can someone help me kill a process that's not even responding to kill -9 ?
kojiroedoardo|office: if you keep binpkgs around a lot you should have fixpackages in FEATURES
edoardo|officekojiro, what's it do?
uberpinguincodertux: does it show up in 'ps aux | grep Z' ?
