CroolMight using tar be better?
kojirowd3: in fact, I wouldn't even bother rebuilding world. I'd just change my CFLAGS and let things iterate back to normal over time.
uberpinguinCrool: have you tried rsync?
wd3kojiro: but i should change that to PIII and change kernel arch as well the recompile kernel, then do oneshot huh?
CroolNope.
ChrisGoCFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium4 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer"
I found that omit frame point really speeds things up
uberpinguinCrool: you can use rsync to sync local directories; _might_ get around your character issue.
edoardo|officeyou guys, i'm tryin' to downgrade to xorg 6.x for a while cause 7.x prints out the modules have bad symbolic links and won't start up! so i do emerge -avK =etcetc but it complains like this: !!! Problem in '=x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r2' dependencies.
!!! Conditional without parenthesis: 'opengl?' portage_exception
TFKyleChrisGo: sadly it makes debugging pretty bad on x86 :(
wd3kojiro: ChrisGo "me"
edoardo|officewhat could it be?
avaricenhi edoardo|office :8)
kojirowd3: i dunno what you mean about oneshot, that's not important
edoardo|officehow do i solve that?
DLangehkBst: Sure. These bugs are open 1.5 yrs now
ChrisGoYes I dont care about debugging right now personally so I should be ok Also MAKEOPTS="-j4" since I have a dual core is nice and fast
wd3kojiro: for my apps, don't i have to re emerge them for the PIII?
kojiro: nvm, thats dumb. :) apps have nothing to do with the processor.
kojirowd3: no, like I said, I'm pretty sure -march=pentium2 will be fully supported on your pentium3
uberpinguinwd3: you shouldn't need to - AFAIK, no instructions were _removed_ in the PIII.
Seadoghrm, my sound has pretty much gone, all I get through my speakers is blaring base and very low sounds, anything else is cut off, any ideas?
uberpinguinSeadog: equalizer?
wd3kojiro: ok
uberpinguin: ok
ChrisGowd3 no but it may get better performance to add a -mtune=pentium3 or -march=pentium3 (if you wont be compiling bin for other machines)
Seadoguberpinguin, I haven't changed any settings since last night
it happens in firefox, amarok etc. so it's not one particular program
kojirowd3: if you want to rebuild for your new CFLAGS you can do emerge -e world, but like I also said, I probably wouldn't bother
edoardo|officeany ideas on my issue?
neeone?
wd3ChrisGo: i just read about the mtune... define it?
ChrisGobefore i did a mass emerge world with new flags personally I would start fresh
wd3kojiro: oh ok.
kojiroChrisGo: that's also silly.
ChrisGokojiro I feel its cleaner :)
kojiroChrisGo: you are fooling yourself
ChrisGowd3: march takes the place of mtune so go witht hat
