andreihehehe
loki_valjay_: [16:52] <kojiro> jay__: emerge --prune --ask gentoo-sources :P
jay__: but do be careful
zlinAndrei: USE="-cups -doc"
uberpinguinjay__: that's what the =sys-kernel/package-version will do - it will unmerge just that package, and leave the others intact.
kojiroAndrei: do USE="-cups -java" emerge -uDNpvt graphviz | nopaste

thegscotthkBst: it says to customize the system you can set cflags for every app you install? i dont understand why you would want to change the way your system sets up diff apps if you have the right arch set up already
uberpinguinTheGScott: some apps don't work will with some CFLAGS.
jay__uberpinguin: thanks. that's it
uberpinguinjay__: np
BoohbahTheGScott: ebuilds that require certain CFLAGS will set them
hkBstTheGScott: where does it say that?
uberpinguinTheGScott: for instance, on my system most things work OK with -finline-functions; but there are a few multimedia things that really really don't.
thegscottou will only have maximum performance if you optimize these flags for each program separately
is written in this link http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=5
uberpinguin: i see
uberpinguin: on my suse install i get some weird lines through movies when i play them actually
uberpinguinTheGScott: that's mostly for the ber-obsessed ricer config; mostly, using a widely-compatible set of CFLAGS will give you decent performance.
thegscottuberpinguin: and i installed the codecs right
psymindumb question, is there a simple way to use CFLAGS for individual packages? .. like /etc/portage/package.cflags or something? =]
uberpinguinTheGScott: when I say 'really really don't' I mean 'won't even compile'
thegscottuberpinguin: oh ok
hkBstuberpinguin: but you can't define per package cflags can you?
uberpinguinpsych: /etc/portage/env/pkg-root/package-name
hkBst: yep
thegscottuberpinguin: any idea why i seem to get a problem wiht vertical synch or whatever with my movies on suse?
psyminuberpinguin, are you serious? .. nifty.
andreiUSE="-cups -java -doc" emerge -uDNpvt graphviz -> http://rafb.net/p/Z0h44B15.html
thegscottuberpinguin: i figure its vertical synch issues
well thanks guys for the help
loki_valpsymin: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-499881.html <--- Further reading
kojiroAndrei: good!
uberpinguinpsymin: yep; the package-name is actually a _file_, not a directory. You can define CFLAGS, LDFLAGS, FEATURES... all on a per-package basis.
psyminloki_val, uberpinguin: Thanks.
thegscotti actually have to go finnish some cisco labs :P
uberpinguinTheGScott: np, much luck.
kojiroAndrei: USE="-cups -java -doc" emerge -uDN world && emerge -uDN world :)
Andrei: that will fix your circular deps
andreikojiro: so now u know what the problem is?
