thegscottgot a question about use flags
on the list of use flags on the gentoo website it specifies the x86, and the amd64 use flags as choices
i have a dual core 64 bit amd 3800..
but i probably want to run a x86 system dont i, because usually it has much better support
so what should i do?
victor-i would recommend sticking to x86 unless you are well versed in linux
thegscottamd 64 indicates my arch is amd64, x86 indicates that my arch is x86
mmm_TheGScott: I have an Intel Core 2 Duo and I'm using the amd64 profile
hkBstTheGScott: use flags are arch independent. You should never set x86 or amd64 in your USE
victor-i'm personally using amd64
edit_21mmm_, what wifi chipset is it ?
DeL3e7my gentoo broke... /etc/init.d/anything start * Dependency info is missing! Please run depscan.sh
though going depscan does nothing
thegscottarch independent hkBst? why is it listed in the gentoo use flag section then?
DeL3e7doing*
mmm_edit_21: Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (rev 02)

hkBstTheGScott: I dunno, got a link?
mmm_edit_21: i'm using the ipw3945 driver
edit_21can you put dmsg in pastebin pls
thegscottin the bottom http://gentoo-wiki.com/USE_Flags_explained
bottom of the page hkBst
edit_21mmm_, i myself am battling with the same chipset,
thegscottim not trying to single you out hkBst, i am just confused
hannesdTheGScott: If you don't have > 4GB ram or huge filesystems there is little benefit in going em64t.
hkBstTheGScott: they are set by portage automatically
edit_21mmm_, try and scan and see if you get any scan results using iwlist scannnin
thegscottyeah.. i know its not a big jump
hkBstTheGScott: you choose your architecture by using the correct installcd and stage3
DeL3e7any1 have that problem?
idunhamok, i'm being dense
mmm_edit_21: ok, pasted dmesg... seeing a bunch of error messages for ipw3945 :( http://pastebin.ca/366077
idunhamam i supposed to take the ebuild file and put it in the portage directory?
thegscottso ill just leave it at x86 then
lng_hi! how to get my current screen resolution?
hkBstTheGScott: if you choose amd64 you can always make a x86 chroot and have all benefits of both worlds
mmm_edit_21: I can see my AP no problem with `iwlist eth1 scanning`
thegscottso in all cases that useflag should be the same as your cflag then?
Nico_hello all!
thegscottthe x86, or amd64 one
