JackieRipperAndyCR1: no, but schedur emerge --sync, emerge -fuDN world, update eix,
[R]klingon: use a binary distro
AndyCR1JackieRipper: yeah good idea
w1ll14mi'm gonna sleep... cya all ;)
[R]ryanakca: it picks a different one each time
klingon[R]: I thought big packages had binary equivalents..
uplinkedpretty much just open office, heh
peksterklingon: Very few packages are offered in binary form in Gentoo. Some priporitary gfx drivers are, and OpenOffice, Firefox, and Thunderbird, but that's about it
ryanakca[R], phew
JackieRipperglsa-check -t all, too
AndyCR1klingon: some do. the ones ive heard of are openoffice and firefox
[R]klingon: kde isn't a big package... its ALOT of packages
Adlaiklingon, some do, some don't
it really just depends on the package maintainer
AndyCR1klingon: if you want a really slim kde, you can emerge kdebase-meta instead of kde-meta
Adlaiif you want a binary version of something, you could always research it and become the maintainer for a binary version of that package
AndyCR1thatll get you JUST the core kde without all the apps
JackieRipper[R]: kdebase, kdelibs and qt are pretty big pieces, though
Adlaiand give it to the rest of us
zlinmarienz: a -t that shows multiple parents? ever seen the replacement for --tree (--show-reasons) in paludis?
[R]binary packages come from upstream
AndyCR1and if you need them you can emerge -C kdebase-meta && emerge kde-meta later from inside kde
[R]you can't get system libs like that from upstream
klingonAndyCR1: ok.. is there a page explaining the diff between kde kdebase-meta and kde-meta
marienzzlin: nah
AndyCR1klingon: let me check
marienzah, bleh, he left
just had another idea
being pquery --vdb --one-attr rdepends gnome-base/gnome|sed -e 's/ /\n/g'|grep -v '!'|xargs pquery -v --vdb
oh well.
zliniiuc `paludis --uninstall $whatever --with-depends --pretend` would be useful too..
AndyCR1klingon: http://gentoo-install.com/kde
marienzzlin: getting rid of unnecessary stuff is easy, it's sanely repopulating the world file that I can't figure out a nice way to do.
AndyCR1The Slim version of KDE which is 'kdebase-meta' is just the "base" of KDE.
This will install everything you need for a KDE desktop, including kdm and all the necessary things to run "KDE"
The fat version is 'kde-meta' which installs all the main kde meta packages
marienzzlin: I don't think paludis would actually help here either.
AndyCR1well, brb
gotta reboot to use a new kernel
marienzzlin: the problem is that even with revdeps unmerging something like nautilus will just say "unmerge gnome-base/gnome too"
