AndyCR1and DONT EMERGE WORLD OFTEN
your likely to break things every other day if you emerge world every other day
maybe once a month
[R]AndyCR1: i -uDN world every day
AndyCR1then do a revdep-rebuild and hope for the best
ryanakcaAndyCR1, kk
JackieRipperI emerge -auvDN world at least 3 times a week
peksterI do weekly upates, but that's just because I have 4 Gentoo boxes at home and 2 at work :)
AndyCR1[R]: wooooow, how do you ever get to use your pc?! so far ive had to compile basically all of gnome twice because of an update to a core package
peksterToo much to do once a day :)
action[R] loves being on the same network as a gentoo mirror
[R]loves being on the same network as a gentoo mirror
ryanakcaandatche, so, can I cancel the install and "do it properly" ?
[R]AndyCR1: you dont have to stop what you are doing to compile anything
AndyCR1first dbus, then libssl
ryanakcaor do I have to wait till it finishes?
AndyCR1[R]: no, but you do after it breaks 49 packages and you reboot
ryanakcarrrg, really sorry andatche
[R]AndyCR1: the amount of times you get breakage like that of dbus and openssl is minimal
peksterryanakca: No reason not to cancel it if you don't plan on using what it installed (you'll be putting a fresh filesystem on it, so no real problem in killing it now)
[R]it just so happens they both happened relatively close to each other
ryanakcapekster, kk
uplinkedryanakca, you can open a terminal in your current environment and do it from there
JackieRipperAndyCR1: the more often you do it, the less time each takes, couple that with a crontab or two, add a nice high PORTAGE_NICENESS to make.conf
uplinkedthat way you still have irc if you need help
AndyCR1ryanakca: depends, if you dont mind sacrificing the install its doing, and i assume you dont, you can just hard reboot the pc, all thatll happen is some filesystem damage on the linux partition and youll be reformatting it anyway
uplinked: you can do that too
uplinkedbut i would restart, if you've already ran it once
endrahey guys
something is acting up in my server machine..
AndyCR1JackieRipper: a crontab?! scheduled emerge world's? i cant imagine that, every time i rebooted i would have a 6 hour job ahead of me
ryanakcaAndyCR1, what if I hit the X on the top right corner?
[R]AndyCR1: and i actually think the openssl thing was a bug in the ebuild
endraDaemons keep freezing so I have to /etc/init.d/clrngd restart everytime.. how come?
AndyCR1ryanakca: no clue, might as well try it
ryanakcait stopped
AndyCR1[R]: that makes sense.
and the dbus was my fault actually
it blocked it but i removed the old anyway -_-
klingonwhat do I emerge if I want binary kde?
actionryanakca will probably get banned from the rsync servers... 2 mess up installs scanning them already today
