|larrythecow||DrChandra: No, only says sky2 and usb-storage|
DrChandra, so that is all I'd add, right?
DrChandra, no, I'm not booting the root filesystem through a network.
|ryan_||I'm trying to build a new kernel, and for some reason after I make && make modules_install, there's a at least a handful of modules I selected in the kernel config that aren't being made/installed and I don't know why. Any thoughts?|
|DeL3e7||i just use "genkernel all"|
|faern||URGENT: can I recover kernels from a ext2 boot partition? My friend accidentally removed hes ubuntu kernel when running gentoo livecd :/|
|DrChandra||larrythecow: YOu need the driver for the disk system, and everything under it. like SCSI (if that's what you have). You also need the root file system, like XFS, ext3, or riserfs. Once the root file system is accessible, all the other drivers can be loaded on demand as modules.|
|larrythecow||so I add: ext2 (/boot) ext3 (root filesystem) and SCSI (my disk drive) to the list as well?|
|DrChandra||DeL3e7: The problem with that is, after loading the initramdisk, the kernel doesn't know which modules to load to get the root file system mounted, so it tries to load ALL of them.|
DeL3e7: Do an lsmod, and you will see 100s of modules which aren't being used.
|Zaba_||should i put .gz'ed pcf's in /usr/share/fonts/misc?|
|DrChandra||larrythecow: Not ext2. grub handles that.|
|Edgeman-work||My libsdl keeps on trying to build referencing some ATI files, but I no longer have an ATI graphics card and so all ATI-related drivers have been removed. How do I resolve this?|
|andrei||kojiro: finished the first emerge world|
|TuomasT||How do I make "ls --color" the default for a user in X terminal?|
|andrei||kojiro: processed 93 info files; 1 errors|
|DrChandra||larrythecow: It's OK to have too many drivers. You can put the kernel on a diet, once you have it running. Having too few means you're rebooting back and forth to the working kernel until you can get the new one running right, which takes longer.|
|kojiro||Andrei: 1 error?|
Andrei: it's just an info file, so it's probably not a big deal, though
|andrei||kojiro: 1 error thats what it says|
|Zaba_||should i put .gz'ed pcf's or just plain pcf's in /usr/share/fonts/misc?|
i'm little lost =/
|andrei||kojiro: but it doesnt say which file and what error|
|kojiro||Andrei: don't worry about it for now|
oh man 51 config files need updating
cant i just update all of them with one command?
|Robstafarian||my portage seems to be affected by an out of date package.mask file that I can't find|
|andrei||Germlin485: what if some of them should not be overwritten?|
|Robstafarian||it says that cairo-1.2.0 and higher is masked as of May 2006|
