iVanplease help, today at boot time my gentoo box didn't work, grub only shows a GRUB prompt, so I looked on the documentation and found this on [ http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/grub-error-guide.xml ], I checked the symbolic links, grub.conf exists, but I don't know where to run "code listing 11.4: Reinstalling Grub" it says "(Run from within the chrooted environment)" what does this means?
edoardo|officekojiro, zlin, there you go http://rafb.net/p/HprRb890.html
kojiroedoardo|office: looks the same...
edoardo|office: I mean, just a bunch of syntax errors
edoardo|officekojiro, how do i solve it?
drazakivan: that means that you load the live cd, then mount boot and root and proc and dev, then chroot to /mnt/gentoo
larrythecowIf I use genkernel, does it have to detect my hardware that does not vary everytime at boot?
kojiroedoardo|office: upgrade system
iVandrazak, then am OK
larrythecowBecause if that is the case then I'll build my own :\
kojiroedoardo|office: it's very hard to help you debug when I'm not sure what state everything is in
sipparAtlas95: I also suggest changing the passwords to your email, as I'd think that they'd be the same.
fietronicIs it bad to have gtk and gtk2 use flags?
iVanthanks, but grub reinstallation does not happen
drazak, do you know another solution to this problem ?
lonexfietronic: no
drazakivan: no?
fietronicthanks
larrythecow...
zlinedoardo|office: that's with FEATURES=-distcc ?
edoardo|officezlin, yup
Ridleyfolks, doesn't anyone help me to find out something about dbus in the kernel? I have to remove it, if it's built in
atomkojiro: i'm in knoppix, but no luck.
kojiro: the discs still aren't visible.
larrythecowRidley: What about dbus? I don't think it is built in to the kernel, but it is a required daemon for a lot of things like xfce.
zlinedoardo|office: are you using any overlays?
uplinkedhey, to upgrade the kernel, just update the /usr/src/linux symlink, copy over your old .config, and genkernel again, right?
edoardo|officezlin, no not here
gnychisare the e6700 core 2 duo chips 64bit or 32bit?
atomuplinked: in theory, but you always have to run make oldconfig first...
drazakgnychis: do you have one?
larrythecowCAN ANYONE tell me? If I use genkernel, do I have to detect hardware that does not vary everytime I boot?
uplinkedatom: that's what i was missing. menuconfig wasn't showing my old config :) do i run that in the new kernel folder, or the old one?
iVandrazak, I mounted /boot but accordingly to your comment I have to mount /, /dev and /proc these are in other partition, so the need to be mounted ?
Ridleylarrythecow: ok, so I put my theory apart. I explain to you: I have installed kpowersave, it requires dbus, and dbus IS running, but kpowersave seems to ignore it and says to init it. Then, I thought that something in the kernel conflicted... What could I do?
larrythecowOr does it just redetect new devices like the self compiled kernel?
atomuplinked: new one.
drazakivan: No no.
ivan: Look at the handbook.
iVanyes I did
