madrissprobably another bot :P
karstenholdenSK: Having the right to legally modify a document doesn't give you pass on all other laws. Modifying a document freely allowing same to include realistic C-notes on every page would still be counterfeiting. That's a completely straw-man argument.
holdenSK: Erm, misfire.
JordiGH: ^^
stewJordiGH: it would be illegal for me to modify the microsoft nt kernel. that doens't mean it belongs main. that means it belongs in non-free
(if anywhere, that is)
karstendmlb2000: https://nm.debian.org/ http://www.debian.org/doc/maint-guide/
JordiGHkarsten: What's a C-note?
madrissfouressence: whew i think its detected windows.. will see in a minute lol
EdLinstew: there might be slight copyright problems...
karstenJordiGH: Franklin. 100 dollar bill. C == 100 in roman numerals.
DawnLightis it really illegal to modify the microsoft nt kernel?
EdLin~lol
aptextra, extra, read all about it, lol is stands for Laughs Out Loud. It is grammatically incorrect to use LOL in the first person; use 'heh' or 'haha' instead. If you want to use LOL, do '/me lol' instead.
JordiGHkarsten: Huh? I don't follow what you're saying. I'm saying that Debian doesn't need a right to modify the unmodifiable sections of non-free docs, since it's illegal to do so anyways, just as it would be illegal to put C-notes in every page of a doc.
dmlb2000karsten: interesting thanks
stewJordiGH: and the slander argument is not really valid in my mind becuase of the following. i could take some gpl software, and make it so that when you start the program, it pops up a dialog box that says, "RMS said the following, 'blahblahblah'" this would not violate the license, but might be slanderous. Becuase this possibility for slaner exists, it does not mean that the gpl'ed software is not fit for inclusion in debian
karstenJordiGH: There are plenty of ways to modify documents in legal ways w/o distorting original meaning or misattributing it.
DawnLightthere should be an "illegal" repository
r0otzstew: any idea how i can check for mysql version?
DawnLightmain contrib non-free illegal
stewr0otz: apt-cache policy mysql-server
karstenJordiGH: Debian takes a strong view of not including functional works which are encumbered against modification, including both programs and docs.
r0otzahh yess
crap
stewDawnLight: there is debian-multimedia.org and debian-unofficial.org for that
karstenJordiGH: Anyhow, I'm done with this.
JordiGHstew: Huh? My point with the slander is that the GFDL forbids an action that's forbidden anyways. It doesn't add any extra restrictions. You would have to treat the unmodifiable section the same way even if the GFDL didn't explicitly forbid its modification.
actionkarsten augments ignore list.
karstenaugments ignore list.
Roninkarsten: indeed
stewJordiGH: i want to remove it, and i'm not allowed
JordiGH: and removing it is not slander
Roninkarsten: isnt there a #debian-supergeeks they can go? ;)
JordiGHstew: As far as them being unremovable, it makes about as big a dent as attribution clauses being unremovable.
karstenRonin: There's #debian-offtopic
JordiGHMaybe we should go to #debian-tired-of-this-shit
stewkarsten: however debian is offtopic there
karstenstew: How can something be offtopic in an offtopic channel?
stewkarsten: dunno
vin`it's like copyleft
