x_linkeeyore-: I have a backup on my Testing system, so it's okej.
eeyore-x_link: for what conceivable purpose? latest software?
stewr0otz_: are you looking at the dhcp client or the dhcp server? you said that you had /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf
enoufabrotman: just watch what you say man ... and do not refer to me when dealing with others .. Full Stop
x_linkeeyore-: Well I honestly can't say
eeyore-: Just want to try =)
abrotmanenouf: right .. knock it off :)
r0otz_stew: yes i have /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf
stewr0otz_: "netstat -plunt | grep :67" on the dhcp server should tell you which dhcp server you are running
EdLinjelly-home: yes, you do. some email servers use db files.
\amethystjelly-home: not in /etc, but some people do have configuration kept in such places :)
r0otz_stew: that wont work..
stewr0otz_: huh? why not?
jelly-homeEdLin: well binary hashes are not meant for human consumption and usually have readable equivalents
EdLinjelly-home: true.
eeyore-OK here's how i see it (WRT sid): it's nice, it's shiny, and honestly it doesn't break very often. But, is it for beginners? No. Is it for lazy people who can't figure out problems on their own? No. Is it really all that bad like people make it out to be? No.
abrotmanbut when it breaks .. i can break horribly
EdLinjelly-home: I'm not sure if you'd call XML "readable", it's certainly not humanely editable, which is what I was refering to.
jelly-homeabrotman: don't break horribly!
eeyore-abrotman: for me, once in nearly ten years? Come on, that doesn't even register on my radar :-)
abrotmaneeyore-: define "horribly" :)
\amethystEdLin: What do you mean by "editable"
EdLin: I guess you mean it's no fun to edit as a stream of bytes?
eeyore-abrotman: if i had to get anxious about it, it's "breaking horribly" (see above for mysql update that doesn't support old table format)
EdLin\amethyst: anything in /etc or dot-files in general should be editable.
actiondamog feeds and pets abrotman
damogfeeds and pets abrotman
abrotmaneeyore-: that's horrible for some
\amethystEdLin: You mean editable by a text editor, right?
eeyore-abrotman: but, that's only ONE time in all these years :-)
EdLin\amethyst: well, this is Unix, isn't it?
eeyore-abrotman: and the fix was pretty much available ... so no, that doesn't really count
damogUni*
*nix
r0otz_stew: no idea it doesnt return antying ot me
stew: even as root
EdLindamog: Unix(tm), sorry.
stewr0otz_: then you are not running a dhcp server
damogEdLin: Correct.
chop1eeyore-: I've had sid break a few times where it was wedged into a state where I had to manually hack packages around in order to get it into an updatable state again
r0otz_stew: coban:/etc/dhcp3# netstat -plunt | grep :67
