simonrvn_robin_sz: whatever's installed
robin_szim not aware of isntallign anything "special" ...
Harzileinhi there
i want to capture from an audio device (microphone now, virtual pulseaudio device later) and have the signal forwarded to a soundcard... is there a command line tool that does just that?
simonrvn_there's 3 dhcp clients i know of in debian. pick one. one by default is dhclient from isc
eeyore-robin_sz: again, if you want to avoid that situation, plan ahead. use some sort of remote-controlled power distribution to remote reboot, or even KVM over IP
simonrvn_kvm over ip? wow neato
robin_szterminal server
\amethystxeihin: because bash doesn't do floating point
eeyore-robin_sz: http://cgi.ebay.com/MGE-SWCHD-PDU-208VAC-VRT-0U-I-PL6-20P-O-P-16-IEC-C13_W0QQitemZ320106499327QQihZ011QQcategoryZ16184QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem?refid=store
robin_szeeyore-, I just think the ifup thing that tries to bring up an interface, faisl and just leaves it there dead is a pit crap, thats all
eeyore-simonrvn_: friggin expensive, though (kvm over IP)
simonrvn_yeh, i figured it would be =)
jairquick question guys, it is ok to have a server running DHCP3 and BIND9 simultaneously? three NICs?
abrotmanyes
simonrvn_why wouldn't it be?
epsilonwhat partitiontype should I choose for dm-crypt?
robin_szeeyore-, nah that ebay item is a windows thing
eeyore-robin_sz: what?
robin_szits for windows machines
eeyore-robin_sz: it's a power distribution unit ... 208 volts, IEC 320 C-13
robin_szits for windows machines
jairabrotman: I will need three network adapters correct? unless I configure the virtual one eth0:0
madrissi have a debian desktop and was wondering if its recommended to use a firewall and antivirus as i dont have them at the moment?
abrotmanjair: why?
robin_szeeyore-, like when did you ever have to pull the power on a Linux box?
jairabrotman: is because I will have the ip of then server, eth0, eth1 ip of the dns server, and eth2 ip for the dhcp and range
hall_ok thanks
eeyore-robin_sz: it can happen. ever heard of stuck NFS? then there'll be no remote login
robin_sz: saying that just tells me you never push your linux boxes hard enough ...
jairabrotman: so I should use the three NIcs and that's it
enoufmadriss: as long as you're behind a router that does NAT, you should be ok, for general uses .. not like wintendo ;-)
abrotmanwhy?
jair: you don't need all that
robin_szeeyore-, I try not to build systems that fail
jelly-homejair: separate nics are only needed if you have separate network segments
jairabrotman: this server will be serving one network but connected to two.
madrissthanks, im using it for general use. duno what wintendo is lol. and yeah i have a NAT router. what about antivirus?
\amethystjair: So you want to have three IP addresses on one server? You can do that with aliases eth0:0 eth0:1 eth0:2 etc
eeyore-robin_sz: you can also run into kernel bugs where ... oh nevermind, i give up. it's not what *you* do sometimes, it's what's in the kernel, nevermind :-)
