DawnLight | thats part of the thing and i think pppoe gives it orders or something kde has a gui for this but it just won't load up funky business |
Azar | nice sum-up of sound problems in Debian: http://www.oreillynet.com/linux/blog/2007/05/sound_problems.html?CMP=OTC-0O724Z062301&ATT=Sound+problems I never remember all checkups |
Dewi | DawnLight: I think the daemon just gets started - or at least signalled to dial up - when interface ppp0 comes up. And then the if-up and if-down scripts get run where appropriate. DawnLight: linux does a much better NAT than those crappy modem things; it's worth running PPP in linux even though it's a bit of a mess |
DawnLight | if your modem can do dhcp spoofing then you can let it do the dialing and your box gets the ip but if you have an old alcatel speedtouch home then don't even think about it :p |

Vasistha | remarkable! I've been totally wasting my time compiling my own kernel since I moved to 2.6.18. The stock kernel just works. yay! |
libervisco | Hi |
phasegen | I can't get it to recognize my wireless card |
Azar | asienko: waht squisher said: you might have a nasty nanny there that will prevent you install "insecure" packages |
phogg | nvz: I always get that with my sblive when using oss emulation |
squisher | asienko: Hm, I just checked a .deb I just installed a couple of minutes ago, and it doesn't have a sig either... |
nvz | phogg: hmm.. maybe I should try unloading oss emulation and see if the via sounds better pure alsa first.. heh |
phogg | nvz: might be worth a shot. |
karsten | What's the current status of swsusp, 2.6 kernels, and Debian testing? |
nvz | phogg: sure.. wont kill my 52 day uptime |
phasegen | krazykit: needless to say, don't install two different wireless card modules, ndiswrapper (2 versions because the first didn't seem to take) and then start randomly unplugging kernel modules... |
karsten | I've got a Thinkpad T30 which has really crap (if not predictable) power management. |
nvz | phogg: like adding the emu10k1 would |
Azar | nvz: both my running PCs are using the via chipset and the sound is really cool.. |
karsten | Can't/won't suspend. Crashes at ~20% battery life. Every. Bloody. Time. |
nvz | Azar: I got steady crackle pop sounds using audacity to record |
karsten | Hrm. I've got uswsusp installed. |
kash | http://digg.com/general_sciences/Make_Your_Own_Hydrogen_Gas <- digg please |
Azar | nvz: ah recording.. never tried kash: this is not the place for such stuff |
phasegen | krazykit: why do they have the rt2400 kernel module in there by default? |
kash | oh |
nvz | Azar: yeah exactly.. heh they've never recorded for me.. they work fine for playback |
asienko | you are right, debsign-verify seems to be totally broken |
krazykit | phasegen, iunno. worked well enough for me |
nvz | only /dev/dsp shows up in audacity o.O I guess I'll have to use sox |
asienko | /msg dpkg no public key |
phasegen | krazykit: are you using a wmp54g card from linksys??? |
