| purplepenguins | backing up xorg.conf is a good idea |
| SlackRat | lol |
| BlackRayne | Why would debian restart without reason |
| zhaoym | hi. how can i find out what fonts i can use for rxvt/urxvt? |
| SlackRat | what means 'backing up' ? |
| purplepenguins | that is a contradiction in terms because you said it had no reason and you were asking why |
| BlackRayne | >< Well there needs to be a cause |
| purplepenguins | what did it do? did it go to the regular restart menu |
| BlackRayne | its random |
| purplepenguins | or did it just go blackscreen and boot up like a hard reboot |
| BlackRayne | It can be at the login prompt hard reboot |
| LinuxNIT | my sisters desktop started doing that when the powersupply went out |
| purplepenguins | could be a hardware problem video locking up |
| BlackRayne | Any way to check? |
| purplepenguins | hmm with windows? or a livecd |
| LinuxNIT | does it do it in other operating systems? |
| purplepenguins | that would determine if it was a hardware problem |
| Guerin | zhaoym: man xresources zhaoym: short answer: practically any. |
| BlackRayne | well i have yet to successfully install another OS on it. Ubuntu has some sorty of issue, but i cant figure it out b/c it doesnt let me see a verbose mode The ubuntu installer wont even start, it goes to cant access tty; job control turned off or something so, im not sure yet |
| LinuxNIT | there are others |
| BlackRayne | gentoo had an issue with compiling and then isaid screw it because it takes ages |
| plasmab | if anyone at debian is interested in advertising debian as being used on a crazy high profile project, check out... http://www.metronocturne.com/projectgal.html and http://www.metronocturne.com/qe2lighting.html (its pretty and a safety critical system) |
| BlackRayne | SUSE won't detect my SCSI drive |
| weltschmerz | i've asked this question before, but never got a very helpful answer. who is the best person in the debian community to talk to about Debian's voting method? Right now Debian uses a poor and complex method called Condorcet voting, whereas Range Voting and Approval Voting are massively simpler and better. So I'd like to suggest that Debian switch. |
| BlackRayne | Any other one you suggest I try, LinuxNIT? |
| aruiz | weltschmerz: you should discuss that in the proper mailing list, IRC is not a good place to discuss that |
| weltschmerz | mailing "list"? you don't have the email address of the person I should contact? |
