slacker403what do you mean ?
ustunozguryigal: ok, thanks.
valdynslacker403: means that you should use aptitude/apt-get for almost any software you install/remove
chlueHello. I had etch and testing in my sourcec.list. Now I added unstable and set the default to testing. The problem is, i have a packet installed, that has a newer version in etch than in testing. Now aptitude want to upgrade this file to the one in unstable. What do I need to do, so that aptitude never want to use a packet from unstable as long as i not request it manually?
ustunozguryigal: there is also shell-fm
yigalustunozgur: not so nice on resources
ustunozgur: lastbash is better but still not best
valdynslacker403: as opposed to slack, which has no real package management at all
slacker403valdyn: yea well slackware doesnt really have nay offical onlime repos stufff
valdynslacker403: that has nothing to do with official repos yet
h3sp4wnchlue: You could set unstable to a priority of 1 (man apt_preferences)
ustunozguryigal: ok, resources is important for me, so I will try your suggestions. I wish Pandora wasn't banned however, it was better.
slacker403i just want simple un bloated but something i can update
valdynslacker403: but about the way you control which files get installed or not, aka package management
yigalustunozgur: I suggest you use lastfmproxy if you would like to download the music
ustunozgur: I also suggest that you use xmms2 if you don't really need this feature
ustunozgurok, thanks.
yigalustunozgur: best
ustunozgurand which client for xmms2?
yigalustunozgur: if they all fail, use amarok because even though it is QT it works really well with last.fm; xmms2-plugin-lastfm
yoshiochlue: http://wiki.debian.org/AptPinning
CyberTopboys can it possible to return the system configuration ferst of upgrade
ustunozguramarok hogs my machine :) I was asking for the guil for xmms2, which one?
yigalustunozgur: oh I am strictly command line
ustunozgurok.
chluethanks, that seem to work.
dos000howdy
i just installed etch on the first time
lontrados000, good
h3sp4wnustunozgur: euphoria (part of e17 , worked ok when I tried it)
dos000for some reason grub thinks /dev/hda is in fact /dev/sda ...
actionkarsten pins a "first etch install badge of merit" on dos000's chest.
karstenpins a "first etch install badge of merit" on dos000's chest.
dos000: That'll vary depending on kernel and SATA drivers.
dos000installer (expert mode) detected the drive as hda
karstendos000: installer runs a different kernel than the installed OS.
h3sp4wnThe installer uses devfs still afaik
dos000karsten, i had 2.6.18 .. then i recompiled 2.6.20 using ubuntu .config ..
chlueis there any potential danger to use aptitude while kde is running. Till now it works fine, but I am not sure if there could be conficts with running programs. I don't like Kpackage and Synaptic, compared to aptitude they feel slow and it is easier to understand the dependary's.
dos0002.6.18 is still fine booting ...
donaldoseth1248: that's not a question, that's an assertion: that you can't. if you got an error give us the error.
