| abrotman | urgency? |
| ctcp_death | i didn't know we had urgency levels.. |
| kingsley | abchirk: "urgency" is mentioned in at least some packages' changelogs. For example, see http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/u/udev/udev_0.105-4/changelog. abrotman: "urgency" is mentioned in at least some packages' changelogs. | abrotman | i believe that's for uploading and migration to testing from unstable |
| dalias | hey who maintains the debian installer stuff? |
| kingsley | The udev package has had five "urgent" new versions since the one I installed about five months ago. What do you think, should I upgrade? dalias: Debian Install System Team <debian-boot@lists.debian.org> |
| dalias | i meant like folks who'd like to talk :) |
| abrotman | duh |
| dalias | i have a terminal which i hope could eventually replace bterm to support more languages in the installer |
| abrotman | kingsley: why don't you run testing ? erm .. stable |
| dalias | and i figured it might be nice to ask them about feasibility, what features it'd need, etc. |
| kingsley | abrotman: Newer packages. |
| abrotman | but you don't update them for mjonths why even bother |
| kingsley | abrotman: It seems to me that the decision of when and how much to upgrade should assume that package dependencies are correct, and consider the bugs currently existing, vs the risk of introducing new ones. I assume that upgrading fewer packages maximizes the chance of fixing existing bugs, while minimizing the risk of introducing new bugs in other packages that currently work. |
| action | kingsley needs to go soon. |
| kingsley | needs to go soon. |
| abrotman | wimp .. upgrade them all |
| ctcp_death | i've had unstable break on me one two many times to trust it. I definitely don't like to use report-bugs or whatever to check if everything might be ok |
| superlinux | hi all is "etch" equivalent to testing section? |
| rahul | for now |
| ctcp_death | i stick to stable and oh so carefully turn to backports if necessary. either that or try to build my own packages. |
| superlinux | aha |
| kingsley | ctcp_death: How's it working out for you? |
| superlinux | so i said in the sources like "... etch main contrib non-free ..." it's the same as "... testing main contrib non-free ..." ? |
| jimmybgood | superlinux: if you want etch put in etch - if you want testing put in testing |
| superlinux | i noticed that debian stable has tooo old stuff like 3 years at leasts ok |
| jimmybgood | superlinux: etch may be stable within hours |
| superlinux | aha |
| Ronin | or not |
| superlinux | ok |
| jimmybgood | or months |
| superlinux | hehe! |
| ctcp_death | kingsley: well I can put together a deb in my sleep. that is if i can get the damn thing i can package to build, which can be quite a trial. |
