tuvok.. got it. no overscan anymore :)
Dewituv: option on the TV?
tuvDewi, no.. that was the first place i looked
Dewi, nvidia-settings option: centered
peterSDewi: honestly, listening to ogg files encoded at -q4 through my via 8233 cheapo ac97 sound chip, sounds perfectly good to me, and that's with half-decent headphones. I am not sure why people spend real money on audio gear
Dewituv: oh. still overscan but properly compensated now?
peterS: q4 sounds a bit low. :P
tuvDewi, actually i'm using a smaller resolution that is supposed to be perfect fit, yet it was overscanning
DewipeterS: I actually have pretty poor ears, but my brain seems to be good at recognising (and being annoyed by) perceptual encoding artifacts
peterSDewi: you'd think so. but I honestly can't tell the difference between oggenc -q4 and the original .wav
Dewi: at least with the sound clips I've tested this with, and I tested a few before encoding all my CDs (didn't want to have to redo them all because the encoding was too poor..)
stonedDewi: dude I have almost absolute/perfect pitch.. and I when I listen to someone play a classical piece and its detuned or not in the same pitch as the orignal composer it pisses me off
immagine having perfect pitch and having such a pet peeve
:(
DewipeterS: I'm pretty sure the reason I spent hundreds of dollars on an optic fibre cable, only to find it did nothing, and stuck it in a drawer, is because I'm an idiot
mikes1hmm
peterSstoned: indeed, I've heard recordings done 1/4 tone flat and that really messes with me
jetscreamerstoned: don't imagine your special, i'm more like mwilson than you know :)
stonedpeterS: ahh man i thought I was the only one
jetscreamer: just messin with ya buddy :)
DewipeterS: maybe my hardware is faulty, I dunno - but just the cost of those cables if fucking ridiculous, since network cables carry the same amount of digital data at something like 1/100 the price
az-debiancan somebody tell me how to fix org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.PermissionDeniedByPolicy problem. i get this when i click on a partition in nautilus
!!!!!
dpkg"Multiple exclamation marks," he went on, shaking his head, "are a sure sign of a diseased mind." - Terry Pratchett, Eric
jetscreameris that like selinux?
peterSDewi: indeed. I've concluded that there is a _lot_ of snake oil in the high end audio world
VanpriestNOoooooooooooo
it just not rebootted...
dam sataa
peterSDewi: cat5 instead of whatever spdif uses now ... that's a concept
DewipeterS: and it's a problem that didn't need solving. USB or firewire or ethernet would have been perfectly fine for audio, but no
PerdignusAnyone have any package suggestions for text only, very old, slow machines, like cmatrix, bb, metar etc...?
DewipeterS: audio is not something you need glass fibres for, particularly since the DVDs you watch have compressed the hell out of the audio with ancient low-bitrate AC3
jetscreamertry changing the kopt= line in menu.lst to use root=UUID= instead of root=/dev/hda1 or whatever, Vanpriest
DewipeterS: on a per-channel basis, even the DTS DVDs aren't devoting much more band than you get from your mp3s from bittorrent
peterSDewi: well even if they hadn't. CD quality audio is 176 kB per second. 96 kHz, 16-bit, 8 channels ... that would come to 1.5 MB/s. 10baseT from 1979 would carry it just fine.
DewipeterS: and I'm not convinced AC3 is superior to MP3
jetscreameralso the kernel line
farseer_....... does K20cupsys start the cupsd daemon ?
jetscreamerno k is kill
