NY Lost Funds

TimRaineyI thought I had installed sql when I ran the installer on my machine, but I don't see any mention of it. I looked in apptitude, and there isnt a download for mysql, suggestions?
Dave_is_sexycoldsteel: any luck?
AzioI blame undernet
valdynTimRainey: what is "sql" supposed to be?
karstencafuego: You're denying it. I'm refuting it.
TimRainey: Which SQL database engine, IOW.
TimRaineywell the guy I had been working with said that the sql server entry during install of debian would be mysql, but I do not think this is the case as I cant seem to work with it at all
cafuegoTimRainey: sudo apt-get install mysql-server
TimRaineyinteresting cafeugo, it is working, I did not see this when I was reading through apptitude
thank you
karstenTimRainey: ... or 'dpkg --get-selections | egrep '(mysql|postgr)'
dutchfishcafuego, mysql-server-5.0 or mysql-server-4.1 to be exact
karsten... modulo quotes.
TimRaineyand my last question being the newb to linux/debian I am, I made a user for myself, but I do not seem to be able to do simple things like create a file in a directory, I can edit them, but not create them, is there a command or config I can find to modify these settings?
stonedrahul: you here.. or there?

az-debianneed help !!! I am trying to figure out why I am getting freedesktop.Hal.Device.PermissionDeniedByPolicy error when I try to open a partition in nautilus. I can open the partition using the gnome-mount command though!!!!
torshidohi all, I have an old production server running Debian 3.0, I tried to upgrade it to 3.1 to upgrade it to 4.0 later, but /etc/apt/sources.list points to servers that dont exist anymoire
how can I get a sources.list to upgrade to 3.1? Should I upgrade to 3.1 first, and then to 4.0?
kairu0hi all
theroueWhat is the use of uploading nvidia-glx version 9755 without also uploading the 9755 nvidia-kernel package?
kairu0i've just installed samba on a domain member fileserver (debian etch) and am experiencing a delay of a few minutes after each reboot until i can access it from a win box. it doesnt accept the authentication during this time. how can i troubleshoot?
cafuegotheroue: So we can annoy nvidia buyers!
dexomsrcWhat is the use of uploading nvidia-glx version 9755 without also uploading the 9755 nvidia-kernel package?
Enverexcafuego, Is there a serious answer or was that it? Going from a few other packages I really don't think that's unlikely :/
Skaagany kind soul willing to help during a serious filesystem crisis caused by incompatible e2fs libraries..? :-(
running 'ls' gives me this: ls: error while loading shared libraries: /lib/tls/librt.so.1: invalid ELF header
DawnLightdoes debian have void11 in the repos?
EnverexIf I download a source deb, i.e. "madwifi-source" what do I actually do with it? Isn't there some sort of special auto-compiling thingy? (if not then it seems kinda useless it being in the repos at all)
kairu0Enverex, you'll probably need module-assistant
Enverex, if i'm not mistaken it can do the rest for you
bokaDawnLight: check packages.debian.org
maddashI noticed today that there are two X11 processes running (http://pastebin.ca/466441), which I've nevered seen before. any clues why this is happening?
mmlj4did you enable remote logins in gdm?
