Dave_is_sexyxfce has no search
chop1raf256: I also recommend fluxbox and blackbox; blackbox has always treated me very well
\amethystdave_is_sexy: what do you mean search?
raf256mutantpineapple: I simply want to trade eyecandy for speed, otherwise I want a kde
mutantpineappledave_is_sexy: what's wrong with find?
chop1raf256: (fluxbox is a slightly more feature-rich fork of blackbox)
Dave_is_sexy\amethyst: the ability to search for files
xuseritchi: yeah, aptitude it is, gives more control, thanks for the notice.
\amethystdave_is_sexy: beagle doesn't care what window manager you use
raf256itchi: try icewm and its XP (new XP) skin - looks much like win XP
Dave_is_sexy\amethyst: i don't use beagle. just catfish. fits my needs
chop1dave_is_sexy: You shouldn't depend on your window manager to give you search any more than you should want it to make coffee for you
\amethystI depend on my window manager to search for windows :)
Dave_is_sexychop1: well excuse me if i don't know everything yet and a gui search is useful for me
mutantpineapplecoming soon: ubuntu coffee making edition
chop1dave_is_sexy: Sorry, I didn't mean to give offense -- I just meant that a separate, standalone program (even a GUI one) makes more sense to me than integrating search into the WM.
mutantpineappleunfortunately, most of the coffee machines have gone the proprietary driver route :(
Dave_is_sexychop1: yes i agree. my point was that just because somebody runs a light wm, doesn't mean they want to do without all the basics. my catfish and thunar are nicely integrated
\amethystdave_is_sexy: I think you might be confusing window managers and desktop environments... thunar isn't part of the window manager
Dave_is_sexy\amethyst: oh yes i am. good call
itchiraf256: http://dvm.zapto.org:3334/~david/imgs/screenshots/fluxbox_vista_01.jpg and fluxbox_vista_02.jpg
raf256: I had some more pics about it, but looks like i have lost these, heh, i dunno where i have put these :-p
Dave_is_sexyright, i'm tired of sitting on the floor in the corridor. can someone help with my wireless. i have ndiswrapper, but my card allegedly has linux drivers for the 2.4 kernel. but i can't find them
hescoWhen I run apt-get update on one machine, I'm getting a long list of "Temporary failure resolving 'gulus.usherbrooke.ca'", or 'security.debian.org' errors and it bombs out. But when I use the host command to test my resolver on those domains, it returns what seems to be good values after a short but not not inappropriate interval.
raf256http://dvm.zapto.org:3334/~david/imgs/screenshots/fluxbox_vista_01.jpg access denied
Dave_is_sexy(#ndiswrapper is empty)
itchiraf256: ohyeah, wait, i have change some stuff :-p
hescoThe machine right next to it, which I believe has the same content in /etc/resolv.conf, does just fine on the same commands which choke the one that's giving me problems.
Any ideas how to deal with this?
itchiraf256: Goes that better now?
chop1itchi: That's a very nice desktop
Dave_is_sexygcc will fix all my c compiling issues?
itchichop1: Normal, it's DEBIAN! :-p
HardDisk_WP*cry*
why wont the snd-es18xx driver detect that card?!
itchichop1: Want the wallpapper?
Dave_is_sexyc compile? gcc?
raf256itchi: still same perm error actually
chop1itchi: No, that's okay -- I prefer a blank dark background. It's more the little widgets that display system information that I was lusting over.
raf256itchi: wait.. I think its my firewall
