| robin_sz | cplx, yeah, firewalls and keepalive |
| Skipp_OSX | is it recommended to have your swap inside an LVM partition as Debian seems to suggest? |
| cplx | robin_sz: could you assist me on the keepalive part? |
| robin_sz | wols_, I described it once, but you are welcome to see it again .. one moment bhundven, I did my usual apt-get update and apt-get upgrade and I got a shed load of packages waiitng to go ... so I thought "oh, much has happened" and off they went, then they failed due to dependencies at some point, then it said "do an apt-get -f install" .. which I did, had to do it 3 times before it was happy .. now its fuxxored :( it cant find many many packages anymore |
| wols_ | that is no description of the error at all "now its fuxxored" != error description |
| robin_sz | for example: # dpkg -S bin/jar dpkg: *bin/jar* not found. |
| wols_ | then install the jdk? |
| robin_sz | E: Couldn't find package sun-java6-jdk |
| wols_ | java6 is NOT in etch !tell robin_sz about isntall java !tell robin_sz about install java contrib afaik |
| Skipp_OSX | ;adf |
| cplx | robin_sz: could you assist me on the keepalive part? |
| robin_sz | wols_, well I DID have the sun-java5-jdk and eclipse installed and working fine until yesterday and the update thjing |
| qiy | abrotman: any idea |
| robin_sz | wols_, ok, its java-5 |
| wols_ | I told you |
| qiy | abrotman: still not working after i fllowed you |
| robin_sz | doesnt explain why a package that was there now isnt |
| cplx | robin_sz: hello? can you help me out at all? |
| robin_sz | cplx, yeah, firewalls and keepalive |
| wols_ | robin_sz: dpkg is a fantastic bot with great factoids... |
| cplx | robin_sz: KeepAlive yes - in SSHD_Config |
| robin_sz | look for a keepalive setting in your sshd conf right, and you restarted sshd ? |
| cplx | robin_sz: its always been "yes" |
| robin_sz | then its your firewall, get a new one |
| cplx | robin_sz: it's a good firewall |
| robin_sz | cplx, well then there is no problem |
| abrotman | !alsa-checklist |
| dpkg | rumour has it, alsa-checklist is 1) run alsaconf as root user 2) add your user to the 'audio' group (log out and log again in) 3) use alsamixer and make sure levels are up and it is unmuted 4) arts or esound stopped? 5) OSS modules unloaded? 6) speakers on? 7) modprobe snd-pcm-oss 8) does `cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp` work for root? |
| cahoot | that should be changed for etch |
| qiy | abrotman: i did all from alsa-checklist |
| robin_sz | cplx, if your firewall is good and being cut off after an hour is happeningm then , by deduction, being cut off after an hour is also good. problem solved |
