concept10Anyone know how to disable the acpi "shutdown my laptop when the processor gets hot while i'm killing alot of people in the middle of a good game " event?
enoufmarkybob: see http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_9706,00.html notice the 1st paragraph about the TSC Time Stamp Counter
stonedoh wait, X problems in sid.. fuck it.. i'll stick with stable on this too for now
markybobenouf: will do. thanks
stonedI should steal my ram back from my brother in law
I gave him 512x2 sticks. now I'm only left with 256 dimm :(
enoufmarkybob: not certain that's your issue, but i'm almost sure there's some bugs about it too .. here's my search for keywords http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=amd64+cpu+timer+driver+linux+bug&btnG=Google+Search
stonedI should at least steal 512 back
concept10I should have bought Understanding the Linux kernel instead of this boring Code Breakers book and maybe I would know by now
markybobenouf: sounds good. thanks
jpsamaraIs there a way that I can run debian in my desktop with most recent packages... without breaking everything?
gravityjpsamara: You can run unstable.
jpsamara: But things will break there from time to time.
Definitely not everything though
stoned!sid faq
dpkgwell, sid faq is http://wooledge.org/~greg/sidfaq.html
stonedjs_: read ^^
er,, jpsamara ^^
abrotmantoday if you have nvidia/ati .. X is broken :)
thats why im going with stable atm
this is my 5th box im installing debian on.. 5 machines in a room.. 2 more to go.. 7 total.. HEAT!!!!
enoufmarkybob: Also , somewhat related, if you're using a xen, kvm, vmware VM type dealio, i think that we're told to disable ntp (and ntpdate maybe), there's a mixup there too with timers .. maybe these two issues are even related .. haven't looked into it much
actiongravity broke his own server too
gravitybroke his own server too
stonedI gotta get an AC unit or two

abrotmanor only install at 3am
markybobenouf: interesting. i do run ntp.
stonedthey stay on all the time.. 2 desktops, 2 laptops, rest are servers
abrotmanoh .. that's your fault then

enoufmarkybob: try disabling it, and/or the daemon
