harkNefariousPrior: really, i guess gnumeric, open office or something in koffice..
peterSLinuxNIT: for package configuration issues there is 'configure-debian', which is a sort of frontend to 'dpkg-reconfigure foo' for all foo on your system
haggzLinuxNIT: look at /var/cache/debconf/config.dat it might make you happy
harkoh, similar to dpkg-reconfigure --a ?
sudo_maddashhark: what's with the bsod spamming?
Azarsudo_maddash: that was dpkg
harksudo_maddash: i remembered it as Blue screen of Happiness ;)
peterSAzar: yeah but hark asked for it ... twice
Azarsudo_maddash: and I proposed a rsod for linux distros
sudo_maddashAzar: red?
LinuxNITim talking about setting up printers, samba, xserver, users, startup prcesses etc. all in one simple easy to use locatoin.
Azarsudo_maddash: yeah like "bloody screen"
peterSLinuxNIT: nobody has shown an interest in writing such a thing, I suppose. the third-party attempts (webmin, yast) are so horrible I guess people don't really think it's possible to write one that isn't
AzarLinuxNIT: we use aptitude install samba xserver etc etc etc in one line
LinuxNITAzar, that does not set up the samaba server for shares and things... i think you know that though
peterS, i see
AzarLinuxNIT: yes indeed
DragonDhow do i set the fqdn?
harkLinuxNIT: there's swat for that
LinuxNITfor get it... you dont understnad the concept
thanks any way
harkhmm..
AzarI did not understand what he wants
peterShe means something like yast, a sysadmin-in-a-window
DragonDwhat should the hosts file look like?
AzarpeterS: maybe is a good idea to implement in lenny
peterSDragonD: if you don't have a permanent static IP to put in /etc/hosts for your own hostname, the usual suggestion is to commandeer some IP under 127.*.*.*, like 127.0.0.2, and put both your short hostname and your FQDN on a line with that
DragonDThis is for a server with a static ip.
peterSAzar: there've been multiple attempts at a linux config gui. webmin failed. nobody outside suse wants to use YaST. so I dunno.
DragonD: then you can just put the static IP in. 'man hosts' for details.
AzarpeterS: maybe a new original Debian concept.. people love gadgets and tools
DragonDk
peterSAzar: linuxconf, that one failed so long ago I forgot its name until just now
haggzI think the "everything in one basket approach" to config is a bad idea, the strength of gnu/linux is modularity and flexibility. people seem to have very mixed feelings about gconf, which tries to integrate gnome administration and config.
gameman72(just a quick question (i hope)) Mem: 906792k total thats from top, thats 906 MB right? and thats all ram?
theroueSo in sid I'm trying to install the stock 2.6.20 kernel image package, and the accompanying headers package, but linux-headers-2.6.20-1-k7 depends on linux-kbuild-2.6.20 which isn't installable.
peterSgameman72: to find out how many MB, type this into your shell: expr 906792 / 1024
solemnwarningtheroue: Run free -m
cafuego!906792 / 1024
dpkg885.5390625
