Azarif I would use any installer howto page would be the one that recommends only the minimum install.. just not to be taken by surprise
well maliciously enough mr vaughan-nichols quotes all "celebrities" who are not so friendly to Debian, what could I expect
haggzazar: the link you gave was a much better review than most, still a bit light, but its good to see the author demonstrate actual knowledge of how to use and configure the system.
Azarhaggz: truly enough a bare-bone linux knowledge is still necessary in order to feel comfortable with the installation and configuration of Debian...
back in the days when for the first time I tried Woody as my first time linux experience, it felt really painfull, I can see etch is more pleasant to install
ceegdondelelcaro: (not root, error) http://pastebin.ca/434003 (as root, no error) http://pastebin.ca/434004
zu22Azar: if you want rock solid stability and good security go with Debian, if you want to run the latest bleeding edge packages thrown together there are any number of distros to cater to- that need, some of these reviewers are not being too savvy when they review debian
steve__anyone know how to fix a "No Release Callback" error?
Azarit is been so long and so many people still do not understand that "bleeding edge" is coming at some stiff price: it is like a big red shiny apple outside rotten and filled with worms inside
Guerinpeople are stupid
*shock*
zu22Azar: precisely
Guerin: heh
AzarGuerin: we are people too :)
actionGuerin isn't
Guerinisn't
cpuobsessedhow would I turn the 21 CDs into a local repo?
Azar*shock*
Guerincpuobsessed: debmirror?
balmanah, i feel good. fixed my kdm login problem.
haggzazar: yeah, imo debian is the ultimate distro for people who want to accomplish real tasks, i have 3 machines running etch, one as a server, one as a casual desktop, and one for programming and testing stuff before deploying it to the server, etch has been rock solid in all configs.
Supaplexit's like trying to open a switch blade, blind folded and with numb hands. it's cool if you pull it off, but you can get cut easy.
jimbalayahm, what's this: http://lunapark6.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/install-25.png
GuerinSupaplex: ever tried filleting a fish in the dark, with frozen fingers?
epsilon.oO uploading etch dvd torrent, 500GB and counting...
GuerinTHAT is cool if you can pull it off :)
epsilon: nice.
AzarI would take etch takes everything under its wing: desktop and server which is really cool. "Look ma' I can do both"
balmanit was the permission settings of /tmp.
Supaplexepsilon: nice :P
Guerinbalman: yikes
balman: why were those changed?
distortedstarhello!
balmanGuerin: now i recall i had rm and then mkdir /tmp.
Azarhi
Guerinbalman: ...
distortedstardoes anybody here have any experience using s-video out with etch?
Supaplexdrive yourself insane with mount -t tmpfs tmpfs /bin
Azarbalman: practice makes you better
balmanGuerin: i got the solution fr web search. but i can't explain how the permissions of /tmp can affect kdm login. you care to try?
