|jetscreamer||but man it first, always make a backup, blahblahblah|
|eldowan||TraceGreen: did it work?|
|FuzzplugJones||i don't really understand sa-update yet. Does it install any default rulesets just by running sa-update or do I have to pass it a parameter? i'm lost.|
|TraceGreen||jetscreamer, thanks, let me have a try.|
|jetscreamer||TraceGreen: i'd go for the fstab first, if it was me|
|TraceGreen||jetscreamer, so, what options shoud i add in /etc/fstab?|
|jetscreamer||i personally would leave udev for last... but you can make it sit up and beg|
TraceGreen: assuming you have an existing entry for it, change sda to sdb
TraceGreen: if / is sda in reality what does it think it is when the usb stick gets mounted?
|tekemperor||Guerin, what is the default visual editor for debian?|
|TraceGreen||jetscreamer, I use fdisk, and I can find sdb1, it is my usb memory stick.|
jetscreamer, and i mount sdb1, but its content is sda1's !
|jetscreamer||ok. what is sda1 before you mount the stick|
and are you using automount
|TraceGreen||jetscreamer, sda1 is my windows system|
jetscreamer, I just use: mount -t vfat /dev/sdb1 /mnt/sdb1, nothing error
|abrotman||jetscreamer: go talk to your kids!|
|jetscreamer||abrotman: they're out partying and working, respectively|
now mp3 works
|jetscreamer||TraceGreen: is your windows partition mounted when you try to mount the usb stick?|
|dpkg||To get write access to a vfat partition when mounting it with fstab, use the line "/dev/partition /mount/point vfat defaults,uid=USERID,gid=GROUPID,umask=002 0 0" in /etc/fstab. umask=002 will make the partition rwxrwxr-x, while umask=022 will make it rwxr-xr-x. Get your user/group ids with the command "id"|
|thechef||I have installed libxine from experimental|
|gpogo||how do you change the PATH system wide? I added to the end of the lines in /etc/profile but it doesnt wokr after logout or reboot|
|jetscreamer||thechef: we honor your sacrifice|
gpogo: are you using gdm or some such? gdm sets it's own paths for everybody
|abrotman||gpogo: sure should|
|gpogo||yes I am using gdm, how do I add it to gdm's path?|
|jetscreamer||TraceGreen: before you mount the usb stick, what does mount report for the win partition?|
gpogo: one sec
they changed it....
|TraceGreen||jetscreamer, everything seems ok. I use: mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/sda1, and /mnt/sda1 is my windows system before or after mount my usb stick|
when i mount usb stick. mount -t vfat /dev/sdb1 /mnt/sdb1, /mnt/sdb1's contents are also windows system. They should be the content in my usb stick.
