perlmonkeyi may as well stick with raid5
itchiJensB: Look on the backports site
Kobazperlmonkey: but just don't grow it, heh
perlmonkeyhehe true, i wont touch it this time
rahulyeah, some people care, because a drive could fail during rebuilding the array
perlmonkeyits important to get your raid right first time I think
rahulbut that's a tradeoff you have to decide on
Kobazperlmonkey: it will never be right the first time... because a year from now you'll want more space
torrrris there a C chanel here?
itchiJensB: See /msg dpkg backports
perlmonkeymy server has 6 bays on the raid, and i only had 3 drives in previously, now i have 2 more
bronze_0_1torrrr: yes
Kobazperlmonkey: lvm over raid1 > *
stewJensB: you can't have both using debian packages
torrrr#c is invite only
JensBitchi, are backports to be trusted? I read in several forums that backports.org is like unstable, only with fewer eyes for bugs
perlmonkeyi can either go for the full 6, or leave one slot vacant for now and then get a much bigger disk for backup purposes maybe thats more sensible
itchiJensB: Use 'stable' software then, aka 4.0
Kobazanyways, reboot time
h3sp4wntorrrr: ##c
JensBitchi, problem: 4.0 does not support UTF-8, I need UTF-8
stewJensB: backports.org is in general trustworthy all of the packages are made by debian developers. however the mysql 5 packages from backports will replace 4.0 which sounds like not what you want
itchiJensB: patch it
torrrrthanks
stewJensB: does 4.1?
perlmonkeykobaz is right
JensBstew, AFAIK yes
stewJensB: apt-get install mysql-server-4.1
JensBmight be less intrusive
stewwhy 4.1 wasn't the default for sarge, i dunno. but both 4.0 and 4.1 are in sarge
perlmonkeyI think tho 31GB raid served me well until now over a period of 3 years, and with the 5 drives and one large one i would be good for another 3 years at least
by then my server may be nearing the end of its life
i want to get a 1U server then that takes up less space
fericitu_who know a better alternative for webmin ???? pls help me !
JensBfericitu_, what do you want to do?
stew, did you do an upgrade 4.0 -> 4.1? any experiences?
Kobazphew, made it
fericitu_exactly what i can do with webmin .. to andministarte dthe server
stewJensB: many times, never had a problem, note that mysql upgrades are a one way street, so you should backup first (well you should backup first in any case)
Kobazfericitu_: all kinds of stuff
